OHBucks
I just put out a trailcam near my hunting location to monitor what the activity was near my deer stand during the summer and this guy showed up on numerous occasions with another decent looking buck but I was unable to get a closeup of him yet. You think this deer will grow a little bit more before September? I have read where most of the times antler growth will go until late August and into September what do you think? chaseasl
looks like his tines will definitely get taller and he may have some main beam length to go
OHBucks
Yeah that's definately what I was hoping for. I'm pretty sure he will be a sure shooter by the time bow season comes around.
Tominator
He's going to be wide, but I don't think he'll have much in tine length.
OHBucks
Would you classify him as a shooter buck? You think he may be close to P&Y?
Ethan Givan
He is gonna be nice in my opinion.

Bowtech_archer07
He's gonna be nice, probably close to P&Y. A buck will add up to 1 in. per day through July and into August in many cases. He would probably be a shooter in my book.
Zambo
He is a buck to watch for sure. Good luck in your pursuit.
Tominator
Would you classify him as a shooter buck? You think he may be close to P&Y? Personally? I doubt it. I don't think his G-2's will get much over 5". The bulbs on ends of his tines just don't look like they'll get much bigger. Once that velvet comes off, I think he'll be pretty spindly. Probably a 2 or maybe a 3 year old. Give him another year or so and see what happens. He's uncommonly wide. Looks like his one side is 2 or 3" outside his ears, that makes him 22" inside? :jaw: That's pretty wide.
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Looks like a pretty good body size on the deer from what I can tell. I would think he would be a shooter for most parts of the country, maybe not in Tominator's backyard though. Antlers will continue to grow on into late August, that is over a month left of growing and they grow pretty rapidly if there is plenty of nutrition, which it looks like you probably do have. Think there is a good chance that deer will make pope and young minimum.
HUNTINGMAN
He still has some growing time left,I know in the area I hunt he had better not show up within bow range.

OHBucks
Thanks guys. Yeah to say the least I was pretty shocked when I saw him on there. We have heard around that there have been some big deer around. But this is only gonna be our second season hunting this property so to see that was pretty encouraging. I am getting alot of misfires on the camera though. I am kinda new to the trail camera thing do you guys have any advise to what I could do to cut back on that?? redkneck
I can't speak for OH, but down here they're still putting on growth into early October. Looks like a dandy. Would be proud to find him under my tree!

Would be proud to find him under my tree! Yeah, but look at the potential to grow on that deer. You can pretty much tell he's not going to have any mass, and those tines just don't look like they are going to grow much more.
Tom2008
He will definately grow more. Deer do not normally grow in late August and September. They start shedding it around the very end of August and September.

They start shedding it around the very end of August and September. We usually see at least a couple deer still with velvet in late September very early October here Tom. Most shed shed their velvet just before our bow opener on the 4th Saturday of September.

layin on the smackdown
Will he grow more? Absolutely...what you can't answer is where he is going to grow more...he's got good browse, he's a toad in the width department, but his main beams and tine length seem to be on the shorter end. Actually, in one pic at the end of his right main beam, it looks like a bulb beginning to come down - possibly a drop kicker or beginning of a drop tine??? Those are some tough pics to judge his age... In one pic, he sure looks like a mature buck, big deep belly, legs don't look too long, and his face looks long enough...but his shoulders don't really say much...it'd be nice to see a good broadside shot of him to getter a better idea of his age though. I'd have to agree with Chris in that he doesn't look like he's going to have a ton of mass... Is he a shooter? For now, I would need more history, or at least more pics to determine his age before i would answer that with total confidence... Bottom line, get more pics and see what he turns into. keep us posted, and good luck...
Casey
I'd like to see what he looks like next year. Even though right now, he's a dandy buck.
Drop-time
If theres hunting pressure nearby-Hes big enough. Deer like that very seldom live another year in high hunter density areas. I pass up all kinds of deer, but that width would most likely be his demise in most areas. He may slip through the cracks though, who knows- Good luck regardless.
