redkneck
Looking to buy a decent meat grinder for the camp. Something I guess medium duty that has attachments available and would be used to grind maybe 6-8 deer a year. I was looking at some at Cabella's that looked like they would do the job. Anyone want to suggest a model/brand? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=netcon-cat280028&id=0044811517628a&navCount=1&podId=0044811&parentId=cat280028&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&cmCat=netcon&cm_ven=netcon&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=cabellas%20meat%20grinder&cm_ite=netcon&hasJS=true
wtnhunt
The cabelas grinder we have is smaller than the one you are looking at. I really cannot complain about it for what it is, never had any problems with it but would be nice to have something a little bigger. Don't know how many deer I have used it for, probably 15-20, it paid for itself pretty quick.
redkneck
Then that sounds like this bigger one should be perfect. I didnt want one of those commercial grade ones, but didnt want one that would burn up the motor with 6 or so deer a year. Thanks as always William. hutchies
One note................Don't buy a small cheap one. I was given a cheapie that I used for 2 years and I bought me a new on last year. Before it would take me an hour or 2 to grind one deer with the cheapie. Now 15 minutes max. I love it and will never go back to a smaller one. I have a Gander Mountain Guide series. OJR
I have to agree with a "cheap" one! It is going to cost you more in the long run! We have a Kitchen Aid mixer with the grinder attachment and have had it for over 30 years! I don't know how many pounds of meat we have ground with it! 100's and it works great! woolybear
I picked up a Krups close to 10 yrs ago. Knock on wood, that cheap little machine's still spittin out burger and stuffin' sausages. The reviews on it suck so I guess I got lucky.
Snipe
I have this grinder from Northern Tool... I have had it for 10 years and has worked flawlessly. Plus you cant beat the price 93 bones for a 1000 watt grinder... And if you want to purchase additional cutting blades and plates.. You can buy them from LEM Products. The cheapie cabelas grinder we have is similar to the one Ken(snipe) linked to at northern tool, grinds a little more than 2 lbs. per minute. Ours does not have reverse though. The wife had actually ordered ours for me for my birthday one year, think it was $100 back when she bought it, figure it paid for itself on the first couple deer. Most deer we do after cutting out the straps and steaks we want we end up with around 40-50 lbs of clean trimmed red meat to ground per deer. I can grind up 2 deer in less than an hour by myself if I have everything ready. Really not all that bad, but we will probably eventually in the future move up to the one you posted the link to or one of the low end commercial grade grinders. RangerClay
I have this meat grinder and I looooove it! Its a 1 hp grinder and it will grind meat as fast as you can feed it. I cut up about 10-12 deer a year and this little baby does the job. They are asking $99 but if you wait till Christmas time you can get it on sale like I did. I paid only $69. Be sure to check out the reviews. It gets a 4 out of 5 and I have to agree. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=401783&pdesc=Gander_Mountain_5_Electric_Meat_Grinder&cname=Game-Processing&aID=503L5&merchID=4006&r=view
hutchies
When I say cheapie I'm talking $25 bucks............I got one for Xmas somebody bought me that worked for a few years but after I upgraded it was like day and night.
redkneck
Thanks guys for all the responses. I know the "cheapies" you're all talking about, and also realize that what's a cheapie to one fellow may be a cadillac to another. I was hoping to get the deadbeats I hunt with to all pitch in and lets get something really nice, but if they dont want to go that route (they didnt like the idea of pitching in to get some top of the line reloading equip to put there either), then I'm going for that $100-$150 range grinder. I used to have access to an ancient commercial grinder that would walk the dog, but last few years paid for all my grinding work. No sense in wasting money, plus I like to know exactly what I'm eating.

LOL. I thought the cabelas we got was kind of a cheapie compared to some of the others they sell and that lem sells. They run the same one we have occasionally for $69. Wife bought the one we have for me as a birthday gift probably 5 or 6 years ago. I had really wanted a commercial grade grinder, but really cannot complain. They pay for themselves in a hurry and yes you absolutely will feel better knowing what you are getting is yours and you will know how it was handled. From looking at the links, guessing the gander mountain that hutchies has is probably comparable in performance to the cabelas pro grinder you were originally asking about John. Exactly what I was thinking. I'll check 'em out next trip down to Gander mountain. I noticed they got one in Jackson, TN now. Has that one been there long? They put one in down at Hattiesburg, about 50 miles south of me a couple years back.

Has that one been there long? They put one in down at Hattiesburg, about 50 miles south of me a couple years back. The store in Jackson has been open for a couple years now. That store is about 30-40 minutes from us depending on traffic. We get down that way about once a month. My sister in laws husband has been telling me that the Jackson gander mountain store is going to shut down, but have not heard that from anyone else. Guess that's why they had them marked down so far when I bought mine. They were selling them for $49..............As I was walking down toward the archery dept I saw it and told the manager I wanted one. They didn't have any left so I broke down the display and took it....................
doubleA
I have always been like Tim "the toolman" Taylor, more power..... wraa wraa wurgg aaaa I dont grind as many deer as I used to but still like to speed things up. This is a Cabela's and works well and the only attachment that I use is the mixer. It's a #32 and makes grinding a deer up a snap. Well built and easy to clean, it's more than I need but I dont regret getting it. You might think about getting friends or family to all pitch in on equipment and share it. redkneck
Charlie, I've seen your pics, and I'd say you'd make most butchers I know jealous!!!! I'd love to have that set-up but dont know that I'll come up with the funds for it. What's a set-up like that run you?
Hoosierbuck
Redneck, are you asking what just his combo grinder/mixer ran him, or the whole layout with the grinder/mixer combo and the pool/hot tub combo in the background? I am pretty sure option number two is more than you can convince mama is necessary to process deer meat! HB

Now I gotta rethink the whole thing. Dangit Charlie, the wife has done thought we could have all that for one low price....careful what you post! :hammer1::clown:
The_Kat
I got one that was fairly cheap from Wal-Mart and have used it for 3 years and it works just fine for me.

oneshot
Just a thought for you to consider on some of the uses... This is my Cabelas 1 hp grinder with the stuffer tubes it comes with packaging venison breakfast sausage I made....Talk about quick and easy... Plus you can always add the many attachments for it later. The Cabelas is a good and "smart" investment!!!:)
