Those who know about crossbows

Most of them out there are pretty darn good and accurate just like a good compound. Yes, they will increase your shooting distance but I wouldn't suggest getting a compound just for the fact of longer range and not wounding deer. Practicing more with a compund will take care of that issue. Compounds, crossbows, and guns all wound deer and have there effective ranges, "All require practice".

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of switching over to a crossbow. I have been looking at the Barnett Predator that shoots 375 fps. I just think I might wound less deer and extend my shooting range another 10 yards or so. Give me some opinions on what to get and are crossbows really that good?

Sherk's Guide Service

I would recommend an Excalibur. Excellent quality! Get yourself the dragon slayer.

They all work.....Excalibur, Ten Point and Bowtech fit and finnish and barrles are first class. Horton is the chevrolet, long time market leader with good value, but going through ownership problems (just bought by Greg Ritz) Barnett is alot of speed for the money, but inflated specs and quality issues. Plastic or metal barrel is something to look at.

Crossbownation.com has many reviews. I live in the land of crossbows and play with all my buddies. Here is my 2 cents......they are intersting and a hunting tool, but nowhere near as much fun as my recurve and compound for year round shooting.

Good luck to you.

I've got a Horton and really like it, but switched to a compound to get a quieter more portable bow and yes more range. Don't let the xbow fool you. Just because it's faster and accurate doesn't mean your going to get more range with it. It's also going to be a lot louder, heavier and more cumbersome than a compound. If you can shoot a compound that's what I would choose. I've got both and will keep the xbow in case one of my nephews or friends wants to go bow hunting with me. Otherwise it will stay in the shed until I can no longer shoot my compound.

I have the Barnett Predator and love it, the limbs are quieter than most being rubber coated and the safety goes on and off silently. It shoots true and fast, I shot like 5 does with it last year and used the 2 blade rage.

Like a knife thru hot butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:saber:
