jesse8953
I was watching the outdoor channel and the show the journal of a american trophy hunter. They were at stillwater trophy outfitters in Ohio and were hunting deer with no orange, with high powerd rifles, and in the fall season. My question is how is this legal?Rifles are not legal to use in Ohio,You must wear hunter orange when gun hunting, and deer season with gun [shotgun or muzzleloader] is the 1st monday after Thanksgiving. How can they get away with these actions. If I did that I would be in big trouble. This show gives a false outlook for deer hunting in Ohio. wtnhunt
Have not seen the show in question, but guessing they were most likely on a private reserve/game farm. There are places like that around the country. My understanding of those type places is that the game laws for the state do not apply since those animals are owned by the operators of those properties, some reserves are rather large too encompassing thousands of acres. WHISKEYSWAMP
had to be game farm or maybe the landowner had nuisance permits... from what I understand you can shoot deer however you like with nuisance permits, even spot light them at night. JackedUpZ71
I just saw the one your talking about. Its definately a game farm IMO. When the guy shot there were probably at least 4 other deer in the field that would go about 140-150". Then they walked down the two flights of steps to get out of that tree house they were in. It would probably be just about as much fun to set a treestand up next to our pasture and start shooting cows lol. RangerClay
Find the web site for the show and ask them. I'll bet you will get an answer.

redkneck
Well, hunting in a pen or not, I think those shows should promote safe hunting by following public land regs.
Arkansas Boy
Well, hunting in a pen or not, I think those shows should promote safe hunting by following public land regs. yes sir, hunters look up to the guys on TV. If you see them practicing safe hunting habits, you are more likely to follow their example. If kids see the pros not wearing orange, then they think they shouldn't have to or that it is a disadvantage to.
Strut10
http://www.stillwatertrophyoutfitters.com/index.php What you are looking at here is a high-fenced preserve operation. Here, in PA, there are still regulations as to how and when you can hunt. But they are waaaaay different from the normal hunting seasons and regs. Bottom line is that the animals kept inside a high fence are considered domestic animals (someone's personal property) and do not fall under wild game regulations. I saw the show. Sad. I can see good reasons for hunting a high-fenced preserve.......meat hunting, a disabled individual, etc. But don't go inside a high fence and film a hunting show then try to impress me with how cold it was, how long you hunted, the deer you've killed or the shot you made. Makes you look like a dork.

Makes you look like a dork. Perfect. Exactly what I was trying to say--although I'd prefer a more appropriate word than dork. I was talking to my wife about that this afternoon as I noticed another show of similar sorts on the Pursuit channel. It aggravates me even though I know it shouldn't. Just galls me when shows try to put one over on the viewer. Fake blood trails are a perfect example. your allowed to hunt in ohio shotgun season with a muzzle loader? or theres a muzzle season? Any legal means is allowed during gun season.
treeinwalker
What galls me is when they get out of the stand in a 500-acre stand of oaks and act like they have to trail the deer at all when you know that they could see him fall 400 yards away. Don't give me that fake blood-trailing crap just to add "drama" to the story. I'd like to see some of those guys blood trail a deer in my neck of the south, crawling across 40-acres of cut-over briar thicket and/or through 4' of muddy stagnant beaver swamp. Luckily, it happens only occaisionally, mostly I wind up doing it for my wife or my hunting partner (knock on wood). Give me a break! I know you can see him from the dang stand!
