Ethan Givan
We put an electric fence around our corn. Put it about 6 to 8 inches off the ground. We also set a live trap just outside the garden to catch them before they get there. My grandparents used to put a radio in the garden in a watertight box and let it play music all night. The coons would stay away for a while but they finally got used to it and came in anyway.

wtnhunt
Electric fence will stop them as well as other pests too.
Hunt or be Hunted
we don't have the money to get all the stuff for the fence.
wtnhunt
we don't have the money to get all the stuff for the fence. Don't know then. A dog would likely keep the coons away if you could keep one around your corn. Coons wiped out our corn just before it was ready a couple years in a row, after I started putting up fence around it never had anymore problems. Alisha
Buy a catch alive trap, by Havahart! We were having trouble with the coons knocking over our bird bath and getting into the bird feeders. Bait it up with some hot dogs and grape jelly... you will have them caught in no time. :clown::clown:

redkneck
a dog works every time. Like my neighbors dog that wouldnt run the coon out of the garbage every night? He finally got a lid on the can and had the coon trapped in it, then dropped the dog off in there too. He said after that night his dog never let a coon on the place again. Hope the coon didn't scratch the dog up too bad.

wtnhunt
Been a pretty effective method for me here. Might kind of watch for deals on a used fence charger, maybe you might run across one sometime in the future.
Randy
well i got 2 traps. ill let yall know if they do any good. That will work. Bait them with a little dog food, you'll be suprised how good that will work, set them on a little piece of plywood and throw a small handful in the opening and more in the back of the trap. A pellet gun can handle the rest. Just make sure to dump them out of the trap as soon as you give them a big headache (I mean seconds) or you'll have a mess... oldksnarc
Never used it on coons or possums but we use to have a lot of problems with neighbor cats getting in wife's flower garden and marking/stinking it up. Put out some moth balls and has kept them out ever since. Didn't affect flowers.

Hoosierbuck
I live in a subdivision and my tool for that type of fix is the CCI .22 CB round. You have to have a non-semi auto .22 for them to function properly since they only go out at 710 FPS. They are more quiet than most high power air guns. Of course, this is a noise issue. If you live in town and can't shoot because of an ordinance, then you are just SOL and the traps are the way to go. Of course, traps work 24/7 and you have to sleep...
