Sure fire way to cure the summer time drought, lol

Hire a contractor to dig a great big hole for a basement for a new house and you are sure to get some precip, or at least we are. Seems how our luck goes, guess all we can do is try to laugh about it for now and take it as minor setbacks. On the bright side though I cannot complain about a drought this summer, pastures food plots and garden sure needed drink.:drink:

We picked up over 2 inches of rain last week in less than 24 hours, the rain started while our contractor was on the trackhoe, before he was done digging. He had to quit and come back a couple days later, was still wet but he was able to finish with the trackhoe.

Last 3 or 4 years, rain here in July has been pretty scarce. Think in just two days this year we have exceeded last years total rainfall for July and August combined. Crazy crazy weather.:wacko:

Anyhoo we were supposed to have our footing poured this week and the prep for the floor to be poured, not looking too likely that is going to happen right now with this steady soaker and rain forecasted through Friday.

For anyone interested in following along, will be posting pics of the process as I can in my blog here.

Might as well call the contractor back and tell him you decided to add a swimming pool to the plans :D:D:D

I am sure the kids would LOVE IT!! ;):p:D

Yep, they sure would Todd. Kind of funny, been a few people we have had out since we started digging who have also thought it was going to be a pool. lol. The kids have had a lot of fun playing in the mud though. Sure they will get out in it again, will try to snap some pics.:camera::cool2:

Wow, you all would probably call me a liar if I told ya about what I've seen them dig and pore crete in.

You'd probably believe me though after 3 months or so of living in your new home.:pop:

Sure they could probably get away with pouring in the water and mud, but would prefer for them to let it dry out. Supposed to be dry through Wednesday, should be plenty of time to get the footing and the basement floor poured. Just set us back probably a week.

It's a good problem to have though. Rain in July sure is nice!

Good luck with the house, and keep posting pictures for progress.

Ben

Yep, a little over mid way through the month and we are now an inch above average rainfall for the month of July with the somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 inches we got earlier this week.

Go figure uh William ..

As I'm sure you are aware of ,,, once things get going you're going to have your hands full ...

I'm eager to watch the progrees of your home being built ... :)

No doubt I will be busy Luke. Will be attempting to do the majority of my plumbing, electrical and other interior finish work myself. Will be sure to post pics as I can.

I'm not saying anything because I'll probably jinx my whole project deal. :D

Looks good William, you'll get there.

I've got to upload the pics of my hole in the ground. I now have a basement that's backfilled. Hoping to get to the framing part next week, but haven't heard from my foreman lately.

Seems like an awful lot of fuss to go to just to get it to rain.

Shoulda just washed your car.

LOL. Been there tried that Don, watering the garden or adding water to the pool seem to be more effective. Figure if anyone can appreciate a good rant about the slop you could.:p

Doing my own grading work with my kubota here, hope to have the walls poured before the next chances of rain come in so I can start moving some of this dirt. The kids will be broken hearted, they have had a blast climbing the dirt piles. Will add some pics below.;)

Your field was pretty flat best as I remember Chris, how did they do your egress/garage out of the basement? Must have built up some ground somewhere.

Will be lucky if I am to the point where I am running my electric and plumbing by the time you get moved in bud, not sure either how fast I will be able to work finishing out and laying all the tongue and groove boards during deer season. We will see. Once we get past the rough inspect for our electric I will be very busy. We should be in by spring of 2010 though.
