wildthing
Fellas / ladies, I am looking into a game camera and was taking a look at the RECONYX game cameras. Anyone have any thoughts / experiences on their camera products?
wtnhunt
They are pricey. Reviews I have seen on them were pretty good, no first hand experience with them though.
toddyboman
Have to agree with William... Pretty expensive. Great reviews... But I have never been around one. Rhino and someone else on here has one... I am sure they will chime in soon
Wimpy
I have one. As said they are pricey but well worth it in my opinion. They are very user friendly to set-up, and the trigger speed is unbeleivable. The photos are clear and crisp. If you can afford one go for it you will not be disappointed. hoosierhunter
I have one and it's a unreal camera. Expensive but the trigger speed is unmatched(sorry cuddeback your smoked) The mapping software is a huge plus for me. Settings are very easy to use. Battery life has been well over 2000 pictures every time for me. It's also heat sensored instead of just motion sensored. Literally this camera has taken between 4000-6000 pictures thus far and I swear I only have maybe 300 with nothing it in(Usually squirrels or cats right at base of the camera) Also dection area is extremely large. Easily 40-50 yards out. Now that's a minus at night because the covert can't reach that far so you only get eyes. I will say that although the deer spook less than from the flash even the covert camera without red light still will startle deer. People complain because they said it didn't have video mode. Well all I have to say is put the camera on no delay and see what happens!!! It will take a picture every 1/2 to 1 second on motion. If a deer walks in front of this camera you will capture it bar none. Heck they can even run by and I will still get two of the 3 frame with the deer in it. Usually not the last one.... There's a saying you get what you pay for....Just make sure you list it on your homeowners insurance. Mine is 12 bucks per year and well worth it.... bucknut
Everyone pretty much covered it all.. Reconyx cameras are unreal! I dont know how cold it gets where you are but we had some cameras out in -30 celcius weather for over a month and the battery life was still over 50%.. you cant go wrong with the camera... and like someone said previously, if you can afford one GO FOR IT!!! JackedUpZ71
Thank you for this thread! I bought one an RC60 a week ago and have been waiting to brag about it. Its an awesome camera. I set it out this past sunday in front of our feeder, and went back on Tuesday to make sure it was working ok. In two days it took over a thousand pictures, and was still at 92% battery life. The infared pictures are really good compared to my leaf river cam. They're not quite as grainy as the pictures it takes. I did have a few blank pictures(maybe 20 out of a thousand). I'm gonna have to change the settings so it doesn't take so many pictures and run down the batteries, but besides that its a great camera. MUDRUNNER
A buddy of mine has one and it's sweet! If money was no object this would be the camera I would get. He e-mails me pics from it all the time, and i'm very impressed with it. It also puts the moon phase and temp., which is great for kepping track of when the deer are active. wildthing
thanks everyone...I just may get one soon. I read good reviews too, but that is why this forum exists...so hunters can talk to hunters about first hand experiences with the various products on the market. I'm not married yet, so I better spring for it now before my girlfriend tricks me into becoming her fiance! hahaha...thanks again!
PotashRLS
Try http://www.trailcampro.com/ for reviews. I just ordered a Bushnell Trophy Cam because it has a good review and is $200 vs. $600 for the Reconyx. They tell me the Bushnell is catching the Reconyx with it's popularity, quality, and customer satisfaction. Batteries last Months and it uses the less expensive AAs. Very few returns for warranty work, not to mention Bushnell has the best warranty of any Camera currently on the market. If I could afford a Reconyx, I would first try the Bushnell and possibly get 2 additional and still have the same $ stuck into it. Just my thoughts. doubleA
I have one of the B&W models from a few years ago, thinking it's a R55. It was $800 back then but the thing is absolutely awesome. I like that it's very user friendly, you can set it up to take pictures the way you want as..... trigger distance, intervals between triggers, times of day, frames taken etc. It also is skimpy on battery drain, I use the bigger 12V gel type batteries and they last several months, even with taking 10's of thousands of pics. As discussed previously, the trigger time is exceptionally fast and the infared works well. Two Thumbs Up:clap:
Switchback29A1
I looked at the Recoynx cameras for just a little bit 2 weeks ago, then i realized how long it would take to save up to purchase one lol. The camera is made by M.A.D. which also made the Wild Life Eye a few years ago. One of the guys we hunt with bought one of the Wild Life Eyes when they first came out and it was awesome. I would imagine the Recoynx camera would be nothing short of outstanding. I ended up going with a moultrie 4.0 game spy for 1/3 of the price. And i know this is a recoynx thread, but ive been very happy with mine so far.
