rhine16
I was thinking about starting a couple mineral sites... What exactly do they consist of and how much should I put out of each??? Thanks for the help
Casey
The Rack up I put out tonight says it needs a 4 ft diameter area. We raked all the grass out of this place 2 years ago, dug a 4 ft diameter hole, spread out the leaves and grass, sticks and other things.... then we poured the stuff on the fresh shoveled dirt. After that we poured a 3 gallons of water (probably don't need that much) and they started to hit it real hard.
wtnhunt
You want your minerals to be located near a trail where the deer will find them, preferably within a relatively close proximity to water and in soil that will hold the minerals. The primary mineral site I have continued to maintain for several years, I started off with a bag of deer cain, mixed it with water in a 5 gallon bucket. Loosened the dirt just enough for the soil to take the deer cain without the minerals running off or out. The deer have done the rest. That site is located at the edge of a food plot on an inside corner near some heavy trails to the field, river is about 1/4 mile away as a crow flies. Thought I had some older pics from when I first started that site, but they must have been on hunt101 before the crash where all those pics were lost, this was the oldest one I found uploaded from about 5 years ago.
