Hillbilly
I was curious if anyone could answer this for me. While a doe over the years gives birth to fawns, how many of those fawns will be Fawn bucks % and how many would be Fawn does. 15% will be does 20% would be bucks!!! That's what I meant to say. Sorry if I confused anyone.
mainebuck
Re: Got an Interesting Question! I'm sure every doe is different, but if you got an average of say 50 does a study was done on I imagine it would come out pretty even. Guest CBU93
Re: Got an Interesting Question! Over long term averages, does give birth to a slightly higher percentage of bucks vs doe off spring, due to a naturally higher mortality rate of buck fawns. For any given doe, I would imagine that it depends on many factors inclusive of nutrition, genetics, herd health, etc...
Tominator
Re: Got an Interesting Question! [ QUOTE ] 15% will be does 20% would be bucks!!! That's what I meant to say. [/ QUOTE ] What sex would the other 65% be? got to go with CBU on this one. That's what I've always heard.
superguide
Re: Got an Interesting Question! In all species it works out to 52 percent male 48 percent female due to the higher male mortality. Individual does might be totally different-we've had cows that always have hfr calves or vice versa. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Got an Interesting Question! Approx 50 / 50 is correct when considering the entire herd. Not necessarily true when it comes to individual animals.
too_pointer
Re: Got an Interesting Question! I agree that everything that has been studied says 50-50 % mix. It doesn't appear that way while deer hunting though too_pointer
fisherguy
Re: Got an Interesting Question! As with most animals it would be slightly more bucks than does.(ex. 52% bucks, 48% does). This is natures way of allowing for the fact that naturally males tend to have a higer mortality rate. Even in humans, there are more males than females born, but males die more frequently. Haha i just read the whole thread...seems like me and superguide are on teh same wavelength.
VtBowhunter
Re: Got an Interesting Question! It all depends on the area the doe lives in. In an area where the buck to doe ratio is in check it's closer to 50/50, but in areas where the ratio is out of whack and does run rampant, the does will have a much larger percentage of bucks. It's natures way of trying to balance out the ratio.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Got an Interesting Question! Statistically speaking it can only be 50/50 But in reality I have heard that it is slightly higher for males 52/
