m gardner
Walmart is closing out these rifles at $350.00 so I couldn't resist getting one in 30-06. Here it is with a Williams receiver sight I had kicking around from a model 700 and the front sight from the same and a square partridge insert. The stock is made so that it easy to aquire the sights and it points nicely. Here's the target that came with it.Mark
snapper
Not a .30-06 fan....but thats a good buy right there. Don't think our Wally World has any of those! Does your Wally World have any more and in different cal.?
Strut10
You ain't gonna go wrong with a Vanguard at that price. No way!!! You done good. And I was in Wally-by-Golly this morning and at (naturally) the gun counter. But I was looking underneath for ammo. Never looked to see if our WM was running the same closeout. m gardner
The ones in the Mesa, Az area have them in 7mm rem mag, and 300 weatherby mag too. I don't know if you can get them transfered to another store. It's worth a try though. Mark

wtnhunt
They have had one on clearance in a .270 here for a pretty good while, don't know for sure if he has in other calibers left in the same gun. Was still at $350 last time I was in there.
Hoosierbuck
One time our WM had a rifle on clearance for $390. I pulled out a business card and wrote "$320 cash" on the back and asked the desk clerk to give that to his manager and call me later. I went back that afternoon and got that Stainless Ruger .270 for $320 cash. They will deal on clearance items, give it a go! HB

HB From what I have been told by the gun counter manager, they won't do that here anymore Chris and not sure if it is just a local thing. Pretty ticked about some recent wal mart policy changes to be honest. They have come up with some real good ones(sarcasm):boo: here recently thanks to what appears to be liberals making decisions,:hammer2: and it is not just guns either.:bang:
Hoosierbuck
Maybe the gun counter manager does not have the authority, maybe you have to talk to the store manager. Then again, maybe they just flat won't deal with you (not you in the singular, William, just in general). If you show them the money, it is hard for them to let you walk away with it, knowing they will eventually mark it down again if it does not sell. Maybe you can find a spot of rust where it was handled, or show them some "flaw" to help them justify the reduction, too. A scratch in the metal or anything might be enough. HB Went down that road on a laminated stock 700 adl in .30 06 earlier this year Chris. They had had the gun for quite some time, still do, and if I remember right he said they would take $50(49.99) off of it. I had posted here about it before. The gun had a busted rear sight blade and some rust on the bolt and a little rust on the barrel. The manager knew it had the busted sight, the reason for the markdown. I pointed out the rust to the gun counter manager and he made a face as if he had no idea that the rust was there. Later on I did make an offer and he told me they could not do it. Think what he said was the policy for anything over $50 on markdown required some sort of authorization/approval or something and that was too much trouble for them and the upper management folks did not want to have to explain. I don't want to get off topic, but they have adopted some really lame policies at wal mart here recently.
Hoosierbuck
I hear you, bud. Then we shall punish them by not buying stuff that they are not losing money on! HAHA, we will have the last laugh! A side note on horse trading...I just agreed to trade that $320 Ruger (still unfired!) and 2 bills for a like-new Beretta AL391 Gold. CHA CHING! If it weren't for the shipping...I'd ask you to just go and pick one up for me in .300 wby. I have a Federal Firearms Lic. so you'd be able to ship the gun straight to me after I sent you the money. But once you add on around $20 for shipping...now its getting darn close to dealer costs and I could just order it in for myself.
m gardner
The 24 inch barrel catches on the door going out to the patio so I figured it would be a nightmare walking in the woods. I chopped 4 inches off it and reinstalled the front sight. Put a .500 radius crown on it ( my secret until now. it gives best accuracy of any I tried so far.) and put a military shooting sling on it. Funny thing happened. The front sight is crisp and clear now. Must be it is where my old eyes focus best. Some days it's better to be lucky than good. I'll work the trigger to 2 1/2 pounds next. This trigger if it's the same as the earlier models I worked on takes time because the safety sear must be ground to engage when you are finished fooling with the trigger. I'll take my time. It's nice so far.Mark
