wtnhunt
Re: Dropped... 9 months to a year is how far out the taxidermist who used to do my deer worked. He normally takes in around 200 deer a year though.

Ohiobucks
Re: Dropped... My taxidermist takes about 3-4 months, but he only does 30 or so a year, part time during the road construction off-season. He didn't get any buisness from me this year though...... Guest VenadoMacho
Re: Dropped... My taxidermist, his son, and one other taxidermist in the shop do all the mounts. They say they do atleast 300 whitetail mounts each year. Thats not counting all the exotics, bobcats, african game, and birds that they get. Their work is top notch, some of the best work I have ever seen. And they dont start the deer mounts until after the general season has closed (about mid Jan.) I have always gotten my mounts back after 6-8 months, which is a pretty fast turn around.

lil hunter
Re: Dropped... Thats a long wait. When my dad got his deer mounted a few years ago, it only took a few months to have it back. I couldn't imagine waitin a whole year.
Rhino
Re: Dropped... [ QUOTE ] Any well established, full time, quality taxidermist will have a backlog of some time around a year. There are some very high end taxidermists with backlogs well over that, and there's nobody here that can question their work. [/ QUOTE ] That's not the case here. The taxidermist I use also does work for the state's wildlife museum. He does great work, is well respected and it's usually 4 to 6 months on deer depending on when you brought it in. The earlier you bring one in during the season the quicker you get it back. It's on a first in, first out basis. Most of the deer taken in are right during and right after the rut. I should have mine back next week and I took it in around the end of November. I killed mine in Kansas, which has a November rut and the rut down here is anywhere from mid December to mid January depending on what part of the state you're in. There's more competition down here so that probably has a lot to do with it too.
RTF
Re: Dropped... [ QUOTE ] turn around time should be the LAST thing to consider when choosing a taxidermist. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] same should apply to price!!!! [/ QUOTE ] But ya know what ? Thats not what most sportsman look for in a taxidermist. These are the two biggest questions asked of me when someone calls for work to be done. Survey says these are the two biggest cosiderations most make when choosing a taxidermist along with qaulity. I've never had anything mounted but I hear it's about 4-6 months around here.
