Strut10
Took the Mrs. and kids for an evening ride tonite and we checked out a couple plots. The corn plot I disked under a week ago and re-sowed is sprouting sunflowers and some chance brassica here and there. It was dry all last week. We've gotten an inch and a half of rain in the last two days. So if it ever warms up, this field oughta pop. Adjacent to that plot is a little strip I sowed in about 3 weeks ago. It's greeening up nicely. But the brassica is all blighted up. Looks like somebody shot the leaves with a shotgun. I'm assuming that the chickory is coming up, too. I never planted any chickory before. But I'm thinking it's the stuff that's about dead-center on the bottom edge of the pic below. Look familiar to any of you that have planted it before?? dogdoc
If i try to plant brassicas too early the grasshoppers tear them up! Insects really like to eat the greens on those brassicas. looks good! todd
camoman1
Yep, those round(ish) leaved guys look like chicory to me.
Tominator
Yep, that's your chicory. Looks good Don. As far as the holes in the brassica, it's probably the work of flea beetles. They hit my broccoli and cabbage plants. http://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=flea+beetle&search=Search
wtnhunt
Looks pretty good Don. I do see chickory in those pics, the chickory plants are rounded at the end and they will grow pretty narrow long leaves.
