gowest Posted July 21, 2009 Report Share Posted July 21, 2009 I understand that G5 has changed the type of steel used in the Montecs - ostensibly to make it easier to sharpen and hold an edge. Does anyone have experience comparing the two? Before laying out some cash, I am looking for any advice/insight about the change. Rhino Posted July 21, 2009 Report Share Posted July 21, 2009 I've read the claims too about the new carbon steel G5's that are supposed to hold an edge that's 25% sharper. Haven't been able to test the difference yet. Even though I have a large inventory of G5's I'll probably pick up a 3 pack of the new carbon steel version to check out the difference. Stinger-Hunter Posted July 23, 2009 Report Share Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) I'd say the sharper the better, but I would do three things before I switched broadheads 1. Test 2. Test 3. Test I am not intending to be sarcastic, I'm serious. You do not want to be in the field switching heads because of a lack of accuracy on a nice doe or buck. You'll be cursing yourself all season. Test those bad boys and if you're satisfied, never look back. One of the worst things a hunter can do is have doubt when they are at full draw. m gardner Posted July 23, 2009 Report Share Posted July 23, 2009 When you work at a computer your sharpening skills may not be up to par like in the old days when your livelihood may have depended on it. They tried to dumb it down so we could successfully sharpen the Montecs but failed. So now we have the new improved ones that you still have to sharpen after you shoot them. Get the replaceable blade Strikers if you don't want to learn how to sharpen broadheads. You can make the best blades in the world dull if you aren't skilled at putting an edge on steel.
