hyperflow
I use Deer cocain and they are loving it. Thats funny you say that, i tryed that stuff twice and so did a few of my friends. None of us even had any sign of deer using it what so ever at any time of year. Not sure why, Deer in this neck of the woods are really wierd. You put apples or oats out they will not touch it, it will rott there. But put corn out and they will eat every last drop.

rbreedi1
They're still hitting the salt lick here pretty hard as told by my game camera. I just use loose trace mineral salt from the local feed store.

wtnhunt
Would deer still be using salt licks if id put one out now? Yep, they would. Deer will use minerals the most spring and summer. Activity will drop off at mineral sites in the late fall to winter.
woolybear
Used to put a few blocks around the propperty year round with cams over them. Late spring into summer seemed to draw the most attention from both fawns and adults. I've heard it said that around here they tend to find all the salt they need on the roadsides winter and early spring. Sounds totally logical to me. We skip right from summer to winter here when the lake effect machine kicks up. I only ran a few cams around the house durring fall hunting seasons, so my experience at that time of year is limited although they did use them, just seemed to me to be less frequently. ohiobuckhunter
i used to have a similar problem they would walk right around it and then an old hunter friend of mine said to put molasses (sp) on the block itself and sure enough they were on it the next day and continued through the season it's worth a shot if nothing else works

Im sure they can smell that stuff for 100 yards away.
johnf
I put one out about this time last year and they didn't seem to start using it untill around Decmber. They are still using it now I probably need to put a new one out, there wasn't much left of it last time I went out. I suspect they will continue to use the new one out of the habit of going to that spot.
hunter109
i use a liquid for of menierl or one you have to mix with water they work better and faster the way they did not use it so quick is because they have never smelled anything out there like that and it most likely had you sent all over it also
BearClaw
Here in Maryland they tend to stop visiting the mineral lick when the weather gets a little cooler. Looking for food sources then is my guess.

Looking for food sources then is my guess. I wasn't asking because i wanted to hunt over one, im hunting a new area and i want to see whats in the area. So i put a salt lick infront of my trail cam. gobblerroller
I've never had much sucess with salt and mineral blocks so I can't really help you there. If you want something to come to your trail cam, I suggest corn. That's what we put out in the off seaon. Gobblerroller
nemodeerhuntersneighbor
In my experience nothing works better than salt to bring them in during summer and early fall (early october). It usually takes a couple years of putting salt out until they will make a "lick". I have found they work better in places where water can stand once they get the hole dug. After a rain they will flock to their salt water hole like crazy.
