Unfortunately, it will happen to just about everyone at some point in thier hunting career...And i think it needs to happen to everyone at least once. As horrible as it is when that happens, its a great way to learn some valuable lessons regarding shot placement and ethical shots. If it has happened to you, you will understand what i am saying.

I have lost several deer in my career, one due to mechanical failure...It was a very nice Illinois 8 pointer that i had drilled when i was using a spitfire broadhead a while back, and the darn thing didn't open on impact, only giving me about 3 inches of penetration. I am pretty certain to this day that deer never died and probably didn't sustain much injury either.

Bottom line is, as hunters we try to eliminate this from happening, but its is still going to happen, gun or bow.

i have lost deer dew too poor shot no really do to a particular blade the one i lost was using a thunderhead another one i lost 2 years ago was using a rage 2 blade i think that was a good shot but it started raining right after i got down to pick up the blood trail it sure looked good i saw fur or water or something fly from her shoulder but my buddy and i lost the blood trail in the rain and dark.

First doe I killed with the bow went a little further than she should have. She was hit with a muzzy 3 blade 100 grain, my arrow may have gone just a little low and back from where I wanted it to go, but from what I could tell still should have clipped at least one lung. Turned out she was pushed by coyotes, found what was left of her the next day, was a mess.

Got to agree with what is said above, hunt long enough and you are bound to lose a few. Don't know about mechanicals, muzzy's fly good enough for me to not worry about switching.

It will happen to anybudy that hunts alot, Personaly i shoot mechanical. Rage 3 blades. Reason for that i think the 2 blade make not as good blood trails. Its like stabing sombudy with a knife, makes a big hole but closes up really eazy just like a 2 blade rage.

Thats my 10 cents of coures.

I've lost a few over the years. I vividly recall the 1st deer I shot with a mechanical shortly after they started hitting the market some years back. I got poor penetration at 20 yards hitting very close to the spot I was aiming at. We found the deer a week later due to the odor while trailing another deer. That experience made me a diehard fixed blade, cut on contact bowhunter. The only deer I recall loosing with fixed blades were due to poor shot placement. Since Montec G5's came out, that's all I bowhunt with now for deer. I have some other fixed blade broadheads I use on pigs. I have some Rage 2 blades that I may try on pigs this year if I get a shot opportunity.

I have lost two deer in my career and hope not to lose anymore. The first was a doe that I shot when I was a kid and made a good shot on,we were going to give her over night to expire and when we came back the next morning, someone had already taken her.The second was a nice wide eight pointer that I had a trail cam pic of,I realy wanted this deer and after he came in with a smaller eight point and bedded 20 yards away for more than an hour my nerves were shot. The smaller buck walked around perfect and offered a clear shot, the big boy got up and was going off the oppisit side of the ridge,I thought to myself, your not getting away from me.I took a marginal shot through some saplings and weaved it through with no problem,I just shot for 30 yards when he was more like 25 and hit him in the void area between his ham and ribs.I watched him run off and only found one small spot of blood on a tree,I searched for a weak for that deer and watched for buzzards and listened for the yotes but nothing.I trhink he lived, the next year I got a pic of a big non typical that had a big hump on his back about the same area I hit the other deer,I think it was him and the injury made him a non typical,I have both pics hanging on my wall.

I've lost one deer and that was while hunting with a rifle. I was in a box blind on a cliff overlooking a riverbottom. A nice 4x4 was cruising along the creek below in hot pursuit of two does. I took the shot and didn't see him react at all so I thought I had missed. Well, we went down to look for blood or anything and didn't see anything to confirm a hit. That was November. In April, my buddy was out checking for calves and came across his skeleton. Needless to say, I have his skull hanging in the garage to remind myself to never give up even if you think you missed.

I'm not much of a mechanical fan save one. The Gator XP by Rocky Mountain which is what I use. I'm not much for the rubber bands, but like the idea of slip mechanics. I've lost 2 does as I recall. The first was a long time ago and I don't remember what I was using at the time. The second was 2 or 3 seasons ago. I hit a doe about 2 inches high high and an inch back at 30 yards with a 3 blade 100 gr. muzzy. I gave it overnight and looked for her the following day. I looked all day and never found her. I could see the arrow sticking out of her as she ran off, it was below the spine, but didn't get good penetration. That was it for the muzzy's. Last year I hit a doe at 15 yards with a Gator XP. The shot was foward and went through the shoulder and exited the bottom of the front part of the rib cage. I've also shot through spines with them on straight down shots. All I use now.

Somthing close to this happend to me 2 years ago, I shot after a buck and thought i missed. I found my arrow there was no blood what so ever on the arrow, just a bit of hair on the fletching. 3 days later going back to the stand i noticed a lil drop of blood so i started looking a lil closer, The deer only ran about 70 yards and died.

What happend is i just nicked him close enough for one of the blades to open on my mechanical and it slit his belly wide open.

My bow was off thats why i missed :D

i lost one doe last year using a rage 2 blade, it started to rain and after the shot i seen her run with the arrow in her and seen it fall out the blade had broke off the tip of the arrow, we all will lose a few, and its real dishearting , but theres always a lesson to be learned in what went wrong or what we didnt do right.

Have lost my share from the ground. Deflections off brush that wasn't visable through my sight window or scope. Setting up over fresh sign on the spot, I would try to get away with not disturbing an area in the least.

I now do minimal trimming before setting up and take any clippings back to my set up location to not alert any approaching deer.

i must be one of the fortunate ones. i probably jinxed myself, but i have never lost a deer while bowhunting. missed a bunch of deer, but never wounded one.:) i only take shots i know i can make. if i feel i cant make the shot, the deer walks, its just that simple. any broadhead placed in the right spot, will do the job provided its sharp and accurate. i have been shooting Muzzy 75s for a lot of years. this year im going to a Muzzy 3 bladed 100. i just want a few more grains up front.
