Move over Alphamax.............welcome the Turbohawk

I got out to the shop and shot the 2010 Turbohawk's last night...................:robot:

We shot the Turbohawk side by side with the alphamax to compare the 2 because I think the Alphamax set the standard for hunting bows in 2009. First off the Alpha 32 and the Turbohawk are almost the same bow. The differences are that the Alphamax has a machined riser and the Turbohawk has a cast riser. The Alphamax also has the alphashock string stopper on it. 1/4 inch more brace height on the Turbo...............Alpha is like 2 feet per second faster

Same cams

Same Limbs

Same grip

The Turbohawk was actually quieter and had less vibration than the Alpha we shot. Both were at 70lbs.

Now for the Kicker.................the turbo hawk is $350 cheaper than the alphamax.............Yeah I said $350.

The turbohawk is $550 with a $50 mail in rebate...........I guaruntee you won't find another brand new $500 bow that shoots like this.

Go ahead and say it...........I know everybody thinks I'm a hardcore Mathews guys...............I just like a good shooting bow. Don't care the brand.............and Yeah I hate the Mathews wood grips...........and was never a fan of the Switchback XT. I think the last part of that comment alone kicks me out of the Mathews fan club.

The shop owner and I both were highly impressed by this bow............infact he is taking it hunting this year over his Alphamax...............

I'll still have my Mathews Target bow.................BTW You will appreciate your shoulders alot more when you get older if you have any left after drawing that monster that long

What target bow do you have? I've been thinking of getting the Prestige for 3-D shooting.

One thing you have to remember though, as far as the Monster goes, I'm only shooting 50#. Really, that's basically all you need with this bow. I shoot Beman ICS BowHunter 400s w/ 100gr. tip and at 80 yards with the Monster I still have my arrows go through the target bag and an eighth of the way through the back stop! Talk about kinetic energy! :D I don't plan on increasing the poundage on this bow because in all actuality there's no reason to do it! I'm happy with my Monster, let me tell you! ;)

So are you thinking about getting the Turbohawk then?

I had to send my other bow back to factory for warranty purposes. More than likely they aren't gonna be able to fix it is what the rep said and they are gonna give me a new bow. I'm gonna sell it if they do and buy a Turbohawk. A buddy of mine opened a bow shop with Hoyt and PSE and I want to help keep him in business and support the shop.

Cast riser? I've heard enough....

http://books.google.com/books?id=MU0k1jsEjO4C&pg=PA16&lpg=PA16&dq=cast+vs.+machined+bow+riser&source=bl&ots=qqH9NGpR2s&sig=GJ_ryk4V109-v1sHSyJWEUHeqpg&hl=en&ei=9UtnSu7qLuGTtgf93aX7Dw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4

This book may be a number of years old, but with names like Dwight Schuh, MR James, G. Fred Asbell and Dave Holt associated with it, I'm going to listen to what they have to say.

Although you can't fault Hoyt for coming out with a lesser package just to offer a better price. Obviously the market is there. For something that means so much to me, I think I'll stick with a quality machined product. ;)

Do you think Hoyt would put this bow out if they thought there would be a problem? I might be wrong put that book was put out in 1997 and I would best casting technology has advanced since then. For you guys shooting the Alpha don't get mad............It is a good bow. I'm not saying it's junk. I highly doubt though that Hoyt as stringent as they are about tolerances in their bows would put out a bow that they thought would not stand up to their reputation.

Hoyt would not put junk out there, no disagreement there. They would and have put a lesser product out there at a cheaper price to capture some of that market though. For the extra $$$, again only in my case, I'm willing to spend the extra cash and get a machined product. But I'm loaded and have money to burn.... :D :D (not really)

Hoyt is actually smart to capitalize in this market. Mathews does the same thing with their Mission line.

Hutch,

Thank you for the details on the Turbo Hawk. Once the new bow gets to our local shop, I want to shoot it and see how it feels to me. I was wanting someone's opinion on it. Thanks again.

I read up on it in different places. Looks like a good value.

How long does everyone keep their bows? My first one went 15 + years before I swapped it out for the Hoyt Laser Tech and likely I'll hold onto it as long as possible.

I get a kick out of folks that swap out bows often. What do they do with the old bows? Ebay?

I spent so much on my Hoyt with all the do-dads unless their is a shocking change in a compound bow I won't be in the market for a long time for a replacement.

But, that's just me............:eat:

Some local shops but not all will allow you to trade in your bow for new ones.

Way off topic.

I heard it was going to be a great bow and knew it would be with almost the same fps as an Alphamax and cams. $550 is going to be hard for other companies to beat with that kind of speed. Especially with a rebate thrown on top of that. Way to go Hoyt. :robot:

  • 2 weeks later...

I just got mine this evening....this bow is equal to if not better than the AM in my opinion. The AM has that clicking pop when it is fired.....not loud but noticeable. The TH is dead silent and shoots just as smooth as the AM. The AM shoots 1 FPS faster.....and is just a hair heavier. I've shot both and had the $$$ to purchase the AM35 like I planned.....I walked out with the TH.

I think with the tolerances that Hoyt holds their bows to that the Turbohawk will be a great bow. The Tech riser has more support than alot of other cast risers out there. Either way..............if I buy one and it breaks warranty will get me a new bow.

Gotta love Hoyt's Warranty !!

Stop and think about this for a second....

......If Hoyt gave up the Alphamax's parts to create the Turbohawk, imagine what their Flagship bow will be this year ???
