hunter109
well my little sis is wanting to hunt this year and i was going to see if there are any good guns like a 410 or a 20 gague that has a fully riffled barel and a scop for around 221.00 dollars or is they going to be a little more brefer a single shot but a pump is good to
birdhunter39
is this gun only going to be used for just deer or other game as well ?? if it's going to be an all around gun i would pick the 20 GA . in my experience the single shots seem to have more recoil then pumps . plus pumps hold a total of 3 shells compaired to the 1 that the single shot holds . plus the 20 GA has more of a shot pattern then the 410 . PotashRLS
If used for deer, slug guns produce a lot of recoil. Go with a pump for simplicity and start her out with light loads. FYI .410 bore is not legal for deer in Wisconsin so check and make sure it is where you are. I love my parent's little savage O/U .410/.22LR but the shotshells are so darn expensive. 20ga. game loads will be much more economical to shoot. bluelund79
You can pick up a combo Mossberg 500 youth for under $300. That will come with a bird barrel and a rifled slug barrel. The Remington 870 youth will be about 100 bucks more, but that is for a new gun. You can always check classifieds/gun stores/internet for great deals on pre-owned, especially youth models that get outgrown/traded. Good luck with the search and the new hunting partner. FWIW, I got my wife a youth Mossberg 500 in 20 ga and she does very well at the trap range with it, just had to put a nicer recoil pad on so it was more enjoyable for her. I have about what you are looking to spend into hers and just got a rifled choke for it in case she ever wants to hunt...

jesse8953
you use a rifled barrel for slugs and a smooth barrel for shot,or get a gun with screw in chokes and put what choke in it you want.Probably not going to find a gun with rifled slug barrel for $

birdhunter39
are you anywhere near a gander mountain , bass pro shops , or cabelas ?? , i bought my 16 GA ( used ) pump for around $160 , at one of those stores . at cabelas i seen a mossberg 835 ( used ) for $ 200.00 . you can find deals out there . a friend sold me a 16 GA single shot ( used fired only twice ) for $ 60.00 . so take you time looking so you don't pass up or miss great deals p.s. the closer to hunting season the more gun sales there will be as well

wtnhunt
Bought the wife and my oldest daughter an 870 express youth shotgun, primarily for turkeys. It was under $300 new out the door with the vented rib barrel. Put a sight on it, and picked up a better turkey choke. If we hunted deer with shotgun here, would pick a slug barrel for it, think someone had one here not too long back pretty reasonable. Not positive, but think the same gun is sold with a slug barrel, betting it would not be too much more than what I paid for the vent rib barrel. Would stay with a 20 gauge with whatever you buy. MichiganHunter
check lots of SMALL mom and pop places and look for guns on consignment that you might be able to dicker and deal a bit. I got my revolver a few weeks ago and it was 560 and I got it for 450 cause the guy really needed the cash. Also the smaller stores will nagotiate on their used gun more than the bigger stores.
