I am really hurting for hunting season right now.

Caught myself at work looking at old pictures and remembering good times and details. Toward that end, you may recall this picture:

Oldschool3.jpg

It was mid-November, an overcast morning. I had not seen much movement, as is normal for the second weekend of gun season. I was doing my annual old school hunt where I use a Hawken-style ML with patched round ball and wear no camo, just wool, use no electronics, etc.

A big doe and a small follower came down the trail 28 yards away. You can see the trail in the right hand side of the picture. The big doe fell in her tracks. The smaller one ran off 30 yards and stood looking and wondering. I bleated with my mouth as I reloaded. She came back to me on the opposite side about 12 yards away and fell after a 25 yard death run.

How much do you love the crisp crack of the primer and the reverberating boom of the main charge? On a still morning don't you like having to let the white smoke cloud clear to see what happened? I love that stuff.

I can not wait.

Remember well.

Sounds like something I could easily get into.

Just haven't tried it yet. Sounds like a great move for the hunter that is looking to mix it up some. My biggest deterent is the cost for another gun and clothing and that the ML season in IL is only 2 weekends. There is an extended late antlerless only season starting this year that would work well.
