dbHunterNY
Last night I picked up a Savage Model 12 rifle, I had on hold. It comes with the AccuTrigger, a dual pillar bedded brown laminate thumbhole varmint stock, and a stainless heavy fluted barrel with recessed crown. I had a new Nikon 6-18x40 varmint scope put on it as well. I'm not sure what the rings on it were. I'll post some pictures later tonight after work if I have time. PS-I bought it, because I think me shooting woodchucks and yotes with a 30-06 or 300 win mag was a bit excessive. - Dan
bluelund79
Sweet, can't wait to see some photos-what caliber did you buy???
dbHunterNY
Sweet, can't wait to see some photos-what caliber did you buy??? It's chambered in 223. I got heat from a co-worker that said I should've gotten a 22-250, but I informed him that I got a deal on this one (assuming it's a shooter). Out past 250 yards you'll have to estimate windage and hold over regardless. I'm sure I won't have too many problems getting it to shoot minute-of-woodchuck. dbHunterNY
Pictures!! I've been thinking about what ammo I should get for it. I may try a cheap 40 round box of Remington UMC FMJBT ammo for now and see how it shoots that.
coles
well those full metal jackets will just poke a hole through a woodchuck. I would spend a lil more and buy whatever ammo you plan on using for shooting varmints. No reason to buy fmj's if you arent goin to use them on animals. Just spending good money on ammo that would only be used to poke holes in paper.
wtnhunt
Nice looking savage. Might give the ultramax ammo a try, my .223 actually prefers the ultramax 55 gr sp's over black hills 55 grain sp's.
dbHunterNY
I actually just picked up a 50 round box of Black Hills blue box/remanufactured stuff loaded with Hornady 60 gr VMax bullets. I've read reviews and heard good things about this ammo and I got it for $0.60 a round. I'll see how it does this weekend maybe.
bluelund79
A thumbhole stock! Awesome gun, looking for a stock like that right now for my savage in 30.06 to dress it up. You'll like the BH reman, my AR loves the 55gr SP. Hornady makes some fine ammo as well. Expensive yes, but deadly! Enjoy that weapon! dbHunterNY
Results are in and I did good! So I took the new Savage out today and shot it with the BlackHills Remanufactured/Blue Box ammo loaded with Hornady 60gr VMax like I said I bought. The results I think were very good. Sorry I don't have pictures but my groups were a little under an inch (size of your thumb nail) at 200 yards! I'm more than happy with this combination and may go back to the gun shop to stock up on this ammo. - Dan

Jeramie
That is a beautiful gun! Congratulations!
Strut10
Sounds like you've got a slick working setup going on. BTW..... there's nothing excessive about shooting groundhogs with a .300 Mag. :clown:
dbHunterNY
If I handloaded I could expect a little more, but this is a factory gun shooting factory reloads. So I'm happy with sub-moa at 200 yards from this gun. A 300 mag does thump them hard though. The little critters grow wings on impact or don't even twitch.
