NS whitetail
As I was overhauling some lobster gear, I thought I'd take a couple of pics and show you how to put two pieces of rope together without a knot. It is called splicing, you use a fid pictured in the pic. The first pic ............ 2 pieces of rope, you unwrap them, then splice them together. second pic............ finished product
Alisha
Justin taught me how to splice last year! I must have done pretty good because he showed my finished splice to Troy and he said I was hired. :clown: It is so time consuming going over and splicing all that rope.....! :48:

Adjam5
That is good seaman talent right there . We have at work made a few eyes on double braided nylon ropes for pulling wire. The fid we used was long and skinny. Kind of shaped like a long Omega symbol.
Gator
Dang, I can't see pics. Wonder if it is done the same as wireline..

OJR
My great uncle was a whiz at it. I watched him splice several ropes, but never caught on!

Tominator
You know Lewis, that's one thing I always wanted to learn while in the Coast Guard, but could never do. I always resulted to a square not or a sheet bend. I tried a few times with nylon, but maybe I should have tried with polyprop. Looks like poly would have been easier, eh?
