Yup for the joy of great meat and management purposes I try and shoot as many as possible......:gun1:

Recently I have been reading more about shooting does with button buck fawns. Studies have shown that the does that had button buck fawns will run the button bucks out of the area. Well on my property those are the bucks I have been feeding and hoping their genetics stick around. So this year every mature doe with a button buck fawn is in BIG BIG trouble :D:D:D

I've never heard that but I will sure consider it. Gobblerroller

In my opinion, a old mature doe is hard to hunt than a big buck. They have to care for their young and is always on the skiddish side. I like to get at least two off the properties I hunt. Harvest more does and those bucks will have to get up and move more. Most of the meat goes to both sides of the family and then also goes to HFTH (Hunters Feeding The Hungry).

Great obersvation. The does do not want to inbreed with their sons, so the young button buck fawns will be ran off.

Used to have to kill one to get a buck tag here...this is the first year in a while where we havent had to do so.

I like to get at least one with the bow every year. There are 5 people total that hunt the property we hunt so if we each take one, and maybe a few get 2 a year it seems to work out good. (bow or gun)

I have killed 12 Does, 3 Button Bucks, 2 Five Pointers, 8 Pointer, 9 Pointer, and 10 Pointer. I have killed 20 deer total in 14 years of hunting. All of them but three have been taken by Compound Bow and the three where taken by shotgun. I started hunting in 1996 and had three years with no kills. The years where 1996, 1998, & 2000. So my hunting has been good to me! I am still looking for my first Pope & Young. My 10 Pointer missed it by 5/8 of an inch. He had 8 inches in deduction due to broken or longer points. Here is a picture of my 10 Pointer.

+1

Ditto

Sometimes them Monarch does are nothin but frustration for hunter just because they are so darn smart. Good point there Acorn!

Depends on the buck to doe population in the area i am hunting. One farm i hunt is over populated bigtime with does so i shoot as many as possible there. Other spots i hunt don't have too many, so i'll take one or two from those areas a year.

I will shoot does during the bow season, and when permitted the early muzzleloader season.

Does are usually in heat during the KY gun season, so I let them walk, hoping a big buck will be following them...killed a nice buck several years ago doing exactly that.

During the late muzzleloader season, it depends on how the season went...if I observed a lot of different does, then I usually will.

we have a VERY THICK population if does here, around a 6:1/5:1 doe:buck ratio. I kill about 2-3 each season. They sure taste good.
Sounds to me like you need to be shooting more than 2 or 3. Assuming of course that you can do so legally. 6:1 isn't very healthy for the herd and it makes the mature bucks harder to locate during the rut.
