Hoosierbuck
So, my wife works for a German company. She usually has a German college student interning under her supervision. We usually try to invite the intern over for dinner once during their 6 month tour. Tonight was the night for Georg to come over. Like lots of the 20-somethings we meet from overseas, they are all about experiencing American culture, and at our house that means game and guns. Georg is exceptionally fascinated with hunting and guns and game meat. He got an evening full of all that. For dinner I did a venison roast, dredged in flour, salt pepper, basil, marjoram and thyme then browned in olive oil then cooked on low in the crock pot all day with wine, the leftover spices/flour and potatoes and celery. I also did squirrel and rabbit that had marinated in wine all day-again, dredged and browned-but in the pressure cooker with a couple cups of water at 10 pounds pressure for 20-22 minutes. It was AWESOME! The squirrel and rabbit were falling off the bone and surprisingly tender. The venison roast I could cut with my fork. I also threw some carrots cut in small sticks with fresh summer squash and zucchini from our garden in and steamed them up nice and crisp. After all that, we went shooting with a couple different long guns and handguns. A couple of Georg quotes, "That last one, the AR-15, that is my absolute favorite one." Also, "I will never forget that! Thank you so much!" A good evening ended with some dessert and a deer hunting DVD. HB
