wtnhunt
Bought the large size cabelas elite scout pack not too long back. Have not put the pack to use yet, but it seems to be very well made and has a good bit of space for what I carry. Pack has good padding in key places as well, really like the design. May not be enough room for what you are looking for, but you may want to take a look at them http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?type=pod&cmCat=MainCatcat604469&id=0010074
Hoosierbuck
I have a couple packs that are in that category. I like around 2250 cubic inches with compression straps and an integrated water bladder. Badlands and Camelback both come to mind as good brands with that type of offering. m gardner
When I elk hunt I usually carry a pack that will handle a bagged hindquarter (45 to 55 pounds) so I don't need to hike back to camp to get my meat frame. Sometimes I just carry the meat frame with my fanny pack on it. I hate to waste a trip out with nothing to show for it. My two favorites are my Kelty Apache 2900 internal frame and my Kelty Cache Hauler. If I'm staying for a few days I'll use the Cache Hauler and use waterproof bags to put my food and gear in and tie it on. They both accomodate water bladders. Good luck on your trip. wildthing
Badlands makes several very comfortable day pack that tighten to the contour of your boy and spread the weight / stress out through the whole back...not just shoulders. I think their packs range in price from from $100 - $400 and can now be purchased through Cabela's website. I own one myself and highly recommend. They are very durable and very well contructed to take on the wild outdoors. I bought one for my elk hunt in Idaho last year.
