Ethan Givan
I went and checked my soybean food plot tonight and in the plot I found these plants growing in the beans. There are several big clusters of them. My brother says its wild lettuce, my dad thinks its Rhubarb, and my mom thinks its turnips. I have no idea how it got there because I only planted soybean seed. so what do you think it is?
Ethan Givan
Nobody Knows? Atleast guess... because I have no idea what it is :hammer1:
PotashRLS
Looks like a brassica of some kind. Was this a food plot last year? You may have gotten some residual grow-back even though the brassica is an annual. Otherwise it is from seed falling off your atv/tractor or something. We tend to get that ourselves. Ethan Givan
Yeah it was a plot last year. Had some clover and Milo planted in the area. then we planted it in winter wheat after the Milo dried up. I dont know where any Brassica seed would have come from though because we never have planted any and I dont know of anyone around here that does. I dont care though, as long as the deer like it
PotashRLS
It could even be turnip as they are basically in the same family. Are your blends from a feedmill?
Ethan Givan
No I got my soybean seed from a grain farmer. This is the high dollar seed that comes in the big 50lb bags. It has herbicide, insecticide, and some other coatings on the seed and they are round-up ready. Should have been pure soybean seed i would have thought. PotashRLS
Yeah it was a plot last year. Had some clover and Milo planted in the area. then we planted it in winter wheat after the Milo dried up. I suspect that there were some brassica or turnip seeds (round black seeds about 1.5 times bigger than clover seed)in with some of last year's seed and you have residual growth carrying over. That is why it is sporatic. I would let it grow, the deer will eat it this fall if it is a brassica. If it is a turnip plant, you will have turnips:D
wtnhunt
Definitely some sort of brassicas. Seeds that did not germinate last year would have been my first guess, but looks like you ruled that out. We have had brassicas growing here in spots we had not planted the past year or so. dogdoc
I also vote for some type of brassica.
Strut10
Brassica if I ever saw it.

Rhino
If it is turnips, you can pull up one plant and you'll know for sure.
Tominator
Looks like a brassica to me too. Like Rhino said, pull one up when they get a little older, you'll know if it's a turnip. It does look like a turnip.
Gator
My first thought was turnip as well. Best way to tell is look at the root when it gets older

nemodeerhuntersneighbor
Definitely either turnips or rape. Hard to tell because their almost the same thing. Pulling one up will tell you.
