45 cal. Kentucky Flintlock. .433 round ball with a .010 prelubed patch. 60 grns. fff black powder. ffff blackpowder for flash pan. Fixed iron rear sight. Fixed brass blade front sight. Going out Thurs. for our early antlerless season. I only hunt traditional muzzleloader. I also use my 50 & 54 Cal. Hawkins, patched ball & 90 grns. Pyro or Blackpowder. My eyes are getting bad so I may have to scope one of my hawkins as a last resort. The guns can shoot 100-125 yrds. Without a scope I'm only good out to 50 yrds. I also have a 32 Cal. percussion barrel I drop into my Hawkin to squirrel hunt. I know this is not what you were looking for but, there are a number of traditional guys like me out here. Can't explain it. It just feels so right/good shouldering a traditional smoke pole. Isn't it great that we have a choice. I'm not rag'n on you modern guys. We need all the hunters we can get so enjoy my friend. You'd laugh if you knew what my dream gun is.

The top rifle is a .50 caliber...likes 70 grs. of 2f Swiss with patched roundball.

The middle rifle is a .54 caliber...likes 90 grs. of Goex Cartridge Grade powder with patched roundball.

The bottom rifle is a .40 caliber...likes 35grs. of 3f Goex for small game/50 yard targets and 70 grs. of 3f Goex for deer/100 yard targets with patched roundball.

TC Encore Stainless/Synthetic stock set

209x50

iron sights

295 powerbelt or the HDY SST 300 grain sabots.

120grains of Triple 7 FF burn rate.

CCI 209M.

Roughly same poi for both projectiles.. rifle burns pretty clean considering. Got my first deer with it last December 7th. Nice sized whitetail doe @ around 225yards.

I do need to buy a new breech plug though.. starting to get a bit rounded out.(lousy socket set at the time when I bought the rifle).

I'm curious if you dumped the doe at 225 yards with open sights? :jaw:

I love my TC Encore with a Simmons Whitetail Classic 2.5-10 scope. I use 300gr Hornady SSTs behind 120gr. fffg Pioneer Powder.

Be sure that your lockplate screw isnt over tightened. Also. it sounds to me like the backside of the hammer ( towards the stock) is making contact and when the fouling builds up, it gums it up and slows things down. Maybe file a litle metal off that nub on the hammer. You're main spring could also be a little weak, they are known for that. Could either buy a new one off ebay for around $10 or call Traditions and get one of theirs! I did this one a cva mountain rifle flinter and traditions main spring is a lot more hard/springy. Some filing of the little nub that slides into the lockplate is required.

Thanks for the info! Took it out today and it worked like a charm. Seems to shoot better with the patched round ball than the conical.

Dakota :)
