TreeStandBowHunter
Dude, AHL all the way man. Never have to worry about them going on strike. The games are more exciting because the players are more fiesty. The games are just better peroid. They are trying to impress the scouts man. Just like college football you know! I seriously like AHL more than NHL....at least I think I do GO HERSHEY BEARS

TreeStandBowHunter
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know. You should have a few around you. I'm not sure off hand but I am sure. Mass may be a little far for you but how about Canada. I go see Lowell about every 2 weeks. I take the whole family(4) for $53 and that is center ice. I used to go see the Flyers back when I lived at home and I always enjoyed Hershey's games better than the Flyers...plus it is cheaper. Hockey is gettng to expensive to watch man. I looked at Bruins tickets when I got here and for center ice seats they are 85 bucks a piece...not like they will have a season or anything this year
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, they used to be the minor league for the Flyers. Back in my younger days, we used to go watch Hershey when Ron Hextall was playing for them before he went to philly

TreeStandBowHunter
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats what I just said man. 85 bucks for center ice seatsto see the Bruins. I looked it up when I got here. AHL MAN..telling you. Hey VH, you should have a team near you...at least in Canada anyway. I know VT doesn't have any. I have a choice of 3 here in Mass. I wanted to go Wednesday to Lowell because they played Hershey but the games let out to late for the kids. I sorta got out of Hockey when I left home in '93 to join the military but now that I am here, I am getting back into it again. One thing I noticed is the AHL is growing. They didn't have Worcester or Lowell back then...only Springfield.
Shaun_300
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the glass at the Corel Center, it is about $140/seat during regular season games. double that in the playoffs
Shaun_300
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VH would be close to hop over the border to see a Montreal Canadiens (french spelling eh? ) game Next closest one would be Ottawa.
buckbuster11
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It stinks but they have to get it fixed. I am actually glad its cancelled in a way because that makes it all the more likely that the players will have to cave into the owners if they want to play next year. I want to have some sort of cap so that all teams can be competitive....like the NFL. The players are morons though, they are the ones losing money not the owners...the best chance the players had at getting a good deal was early on in this process. They should just accept the fact that there is going to be a salary cap...take the best deal and get on the ice.

buckbuster11
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [ QUOTE ] Also with Bettman trying to "Americanize" a game that was just fine before he came to power. Look what has happened to the small market teams since he became commish(winnipeg, pittsburgh, quebec, hartford, etc.). [/ QUOTE ] Truk, bettman screwed with the rules, I'll give you that But, the demise of small market teams has nothing to do with the commish. It has to do with the current system. Small market teams cant keep up because they simple dont make enough money to keep the kind of players that big market teams do. The owners...yes the owners are trying to change that. The players are the ones that want things to stay the same. As Chris Chelios said the other day, hockey needs to return to the days were the "big six" rule the league....he's referring to detroit, chicago, philly, etc... Thats the kind of thinking that is killing the game. The owners want a salary cap so that all the teams have an equal chance of being competitive every year. That would give teams like Pittsburgh just as good of a chance as Detroit. Personally I think thats the only way hockey will be saved. I was expecting more fights at that game than what I saw seeing how they are like right down the street from each other. Like I said, we have 3 teams here in Mass...Lowell just seems to be the closest one. I wanted to see them when they played Hershey but couldn't go...and it sucked too because Hershey beat them that night Both my parents work for Hershey so we used to get tickets to the Wednesday night games for free. But that was a LONG time ago. Lowell is a pretty good team though....BUT NOT AS GOOD AS HERSHEY

MUDRUNNER
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man,you guys are killing me here!I miss going to the Blues games like you wouldn't beleive. It does tick me off that we pay between 30 and 120 bucks to go to games, and it doesn't seem like the players care.I haven't been to a minor league game yet, mostly because it wouldn't seem the same not knowing all the players names and numbers.I was really hoping the NHL and the players union would have came to an agreemant last week.Aren't the Icecats moving to peoria next year? If you want to see good AHL games go to a Lowell vs Manchester game. All i have to say about it is intense. Both teams are only about 30 minnutes from each other and im located right in the middle. I use to go to Lowell to see them until the team in Manchester came. Its just a little easyer to see them then drive into Mass.

pa_sportsman
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The NHL season is on the verge of cancellation due to a lockout imposed by the owners, not a strike. As far as I'm concerned, the owners should do whatever it takes to fix the problem. I believe that the players are largely at fault for the length of the work stoppage. The owners should have the right to manage their businesses as they see fit. If that includes a salary cap, so be it. No one can force a player to play under a cap. If he doesn't want to play under such a system, he is free to shop his services to any other league that will have him. Of course, he would not likely play for millions of dollars a year, live in North America as a multimillionaire, or skate for the Stanley Cup. But, no hockey player is entitled to such rewards. An NHL career and salary is certainly not an entitlement, no matter the level of talent possessed by a player. Implementation of a salary cap would be good for the league and greatly increase the value of each franchise. Cost certainty is the major issue, but not the only problem. Currently, many more roster spots exist than NHL-caliber players to fill them. The league would be much more competitive if 4-6 teams were contracted. However, that would hurt the league (owner revenue) and the players (fewer union members). I believe the league and the on ice officials should review the rulebook. The officials, under league direction, seem to have a very poor understanding of holding, hooking, and interference. If an action is considered a penalty under the current rules, call it! Of course, eliminating interference and calling more penalties would greatly expose teams with very limited talent. I don't have the answers, but am willing to lose this season to fix the finances. Until the NHL resumes, I'll take what I can get - AHL, ECHL and any televised hockey.
superguide
Re: THe NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both the king boys can scrap-Dwight got speared last year and with one punch broke the guys jaw and eye socket-nobody tried to gut him after that. The ruination of the NHL was when they started bringing Europeans over-give me Stevie Y,Sakic,Iginla over any overpaid European floater that disappears in the playoffs. Do you want the big millions or do you want to play hockey? Thats what it comes down too.... and most of em chose money... go figure... hopefully they will get it through their heads...
