Tom2008
Coles, great guess, you are right. Close, but I'm going for Pine Marten. Edited August 13, 2009 by Tom2008
wtnhunt
Definitely a weasel, looks too small to be a wolverine. Would agree that it appears to be a marten or fisher, but fishers from what I have read are not usually that light.
coles
tom i think you are right with the pine marten. i forgot about those lil devils. I just compared pics between the fishers and pine martens and it looks like a marten to me
whitetailtrax
Was this right off the highway or did you find it on a hike or something? Just curious as to cause of death?? Think it was hit by a car and moved off the road onto the rock? If you have anymore info I would be really curious. If you have more details, I might pass them along to a fellow wildlife biologist down that way to investigate. They keep tight records on roadkill in the park too and would be interested to record this if it is a roadkill. They might have other ideas on how it died. American marten (pine marten) are beautiful critters and fairly common in western Montana forests - not sure of their distribution in Wyoming. Thanks for posting. Mark We seen it in Yellowstone it looked to be placed on the rock right besides the road. I would guess a roadkill.
