hoosier_country
Bought a Marlin .44 mag lever action and was wondering what bullet everyone recommends for deer hunting?
PotashRLS
The Hornady Leverevolution is supposed to be the bomb. I hope to reload them for my .44 Super Redhawk Handgun sometime down the road. https://www.hornady.com/shop/?page=shop/browse&category_id=9278d2feabc82d4cccd3feff053bf452
elnor
I second the LeverEvolution. I use those in my Taurus .44Mag revolver (big kick but great performance) and I use the 30-30 variant in my Marlin 336. If/when I get a 44Mag lever gun, that'll be the cartridge I try in it first. Rem308
Leverevolution The Hornady Leverevolution is supposed to be the bomb. https://www.hornady.com/shop/?page=shop/browse&category_id=9278d2feabc82d4cccd3feff053bf452 I'm wanting to try these in my SBH .44 Mag as well. DocMort
The lever evolution is a good bullet for deer. Shoot it out of the 444 and 450 with great performance. I would also look at a big heavy cast bullet 310 grain with a gas check. They just hammer deer.
Heavy Metal
I have the Marlin 1894 Cowboy Been using a couple boxes of Fiochi which is cheap ammo. Those are 240gn. A box of 50 is like $25. Great for plinking and shooting and hunting too. But my babies I'm saving for deer season are 300gn Hornady Premiums (hollow points). I will re-sight with these though close to deer season. Those leverevolutions look SICK!!
DocMort
The only problem with the LeverEvolution is that they blow some meat up. Deer don't go to far if any place at all.
Hoosierbuck
I tired that Hornady round in my .500 Smith encore, and it just would not group them. In my .44 Winchester 94 I shoot the cheap white box Winchester 240 grain HP's and it is a solid performer. This is an exit hole from that round at 40 yards: HB
Heavy Metal
MAN...that aint bad at all. Nice clean exit. My .50 mzl is like a blast zone in like a 12" diameter. It's all mush and throw away.
