You can look, but you can't touch...

Just wondering if any of you other deer nuts have the same living situation as I do. The house I bought two years ago has a nature preserve right in my back yard just 50 feet from my deck. My north lot is literally a farm field. Needless to say I constantly have VERY large deer in my back yard all the time. It is not uncommon to see 140 to 170 class bucks all the time. The reason is that there is no hunting allowed so these deer get old and they are used to humans so they are not overly shy. It is like living in Heaven, the only thing that would make it better is if hunting was allowed where I live. Anyway do any of you guys have a home that is located somewhere that has a local resident population of big bucks that you can only look at but not go after. It is cool and torture all at the same time. But I'll take that kind of torture gladly for the rest of my life.

Place I used to live had a good section of woods behind it. Saw lots of nice bucks througout the year.....they would let you walk within 30yds of them or so before they would move.

Would hardly be 'hunting'...more like fish in a barrel.

I can hunt behind my house now as long as I use a bow (not suppose to shoot guns in town limits) and I have been tempted to sit a morning out of my practice treestand out back lol There are critters back there.

I'll see some big deer at the campus where I work every fall. Fun to watch but that's as far as it goes. I'll see big deer on the farms around my house, but gaining permission to hunt them is as difficult as changing a game preserve into public hunting.

Wow, i guess it is more common than I thought. It is proof though to the old addage, let them go so they can grow. I can't believe the size of not only the racks but the bodies on some of these fellas. Some really big girls too! Anyway I feel very blessed to be able to witness their antics on a daily basis. It is really cool this time of year to see the same bucks and watch the changes in their antlers from day to day.

I hear ya pal, I know exactly what you mean.

Occasionally, my son Joe and I go up to a Catholic retreat property(150+ acres) a few miles from home after dinner, to observe/glass the 4 and 5 and maybe even 6 and 7 year old, 10 and 12pters grazing out in the fields there. We bring buckets and paper towels to contain the drooling :).

There is no buck/deer take objective by NYS DEC in our county due to the amount of land that cannot be hunted. We have quite a few popers and booners running around here too.

I am 40 miles north of NYC.
