Saskbuck40
Re: Not for weak stomach! I hunt with a .243. I have never lost a deer with that rifle, and bucks here are commonly 300+ lbs. Thats just a waste of meat in my opinion.
PAbowhunter4life
Re: Not for weak stomach! Yeah, I have done that to a few doe with my 7 MM shooting 165 grain Federals. The entrance hole isn't bad, but when the bullet expands and brings all that bone matter and what not with it, the exit holes are HUGE. mathews4life
Re: Not for weak stomach! Never seent anything like that b4. Norm Sauceman
Re: Not for weak stomach! DANG!!!!!!! I shoot a BAR 300 Win Mag with 220 grain silvertips and have NEVER had an exit hole nore than a couple of inches... WOW!!!!!
Rhino
Re: Not for weak stomach! That looks like a poor choice of bullet selection for the 7 mag to me. I've seen a lot of deer killed with a number of different magnum rifles. The ones hit with bullets designed for limited expansion and maximum weight retention don't leave exit wounds like that or anything even close to that. RangerClay
Re: Not for weak stomach! My best friend shot a 7 point in the neck with his .270. He used 130 gr. Silvertips. The bullet hit the spine and made a hole that I could stick my fist in. probably 5-6" in dia. I have seen 7mm's do this before!!! Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Not for weak stomach! I shoot a 7 mag with 140 gr Win Ballistic Tips and I've seen similar damage when the bullet fragments. I shot a buck this year that was facing me. The bullet entered the brisket and exited just in front of the right hindquarter. Took out a 6 inch section of backstrap after traveling through about 30 inches of internal organs. Guest nubs
Re: Not for weak stomach! I would take my .243 a feild any day for whitetails over any 7 mag.
PAbowhunter4life
Re: Not for weak stomach! And I would take my 7mag over any .243 anyday. What's the point you're trying to make here? lol
Guest nubs
Re: Not for weak stomach! I don't see the need for ripping a deer's head off to kill it. You can only kill them so dead. The places I hunt, there is no need in a large caliber gun. My max shots are 100 yards, thats MAX! I mainly hunt with a 30-06, and it does more than enough to bring any whitetail down fast. Like I said, I would prefer to use my .243 and save alittle meat.
TreeWalker
Re: Not for weak stomach! Now before you guys jump on the bandwagon, here is my take..... I don't think it's overkill and here's why.......it wasn't the round 's caliber that did so much damage, but the placement..........I shot a Muley a few years back with my 25-06 with the exact same results........the deer was standing on a hillside, above me a few degrees and slightly quartering away......in order to make a clean and efficient kill, I automatically aim for the offside shoulder.........and to make a long story short, this is the kind of results you can expect..........I imagine you could get the same thing from a 243 also, depending on the rounds design..........it may be a waste of some of the meat, but the game is down........sometimes we can't help that our rounds hit a bone or two, and a shoulder hit is more common than not..........so let's not go pointing the finger, cause if it hasn't happened to you yet, is most likely will at least once in the future..... Oh yea, and my shot was right at 100 yards also.....
Missed160
Re: Not for weak stomach! Wow!!! I don't mean to be skeptical, but I have seen a lot of dead deer, but nothing even close to that... It seems so "clean", I would think there would be some type of tissue/hair remaining in the hole.
