No good can come of this

Phoenix police said the gun-toters at Monday's event, including the man carrying an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder, didn't need permits. No crimes were committed, and no one was arrested.

The man with the rifle declined to be identified but told The Arizona Republic that he was carrying the assault weapon because he could. "In Arizona, I still have some freedoms," he said.

Phoenix police Detective J. Oliver, who monitored the man at the downtown protest, said police also wanted to make sure no one decided to harm him.

Sounds like the Phoenix leo's have got their minds in the right place and also sounds like they did a fine job of keeping things in check.

It may tick Obama off, but with there being no violence associated with this, I cannot see there being any negative impact from this, however with that being said we all know how the media can skew things. Unfortunate there are so many ignorant people in this world who know no better than what the media tries to spoon feed them.

Hopefully the NRA is already working on thoughts anticipating how to respond to any ignorance from the media on this topic.

I am a red blooded card carrying NRA member but this will not make us gun owners look good.
I'm not so sure about that. Didn't that gentleman just demonstrate to the whole world that law abiding citizens can carry firearms without having a wild west type gunfight erupt at every opportunity?

Good! He's rapidly making himself irrelevant by his actions on healthcare, amnesty for illegal aliens and repealing the federal ban on gay marriage. Add some overt attempts at gun control to the mix and he'll be setting himself and the democrat party up for a colossal failure in 2010 and 2012.

I just love how throughout that article there was no mention at all of the guns these protesters had being loaded, but as soon as the anti-gun advocate opens his pie hole, he refers to the problems with bringing LOADED guns to these protests. Does he know more than anyone else, or is he just spinning the facts? HMMMMM.

I was actually just going to post this same topic as I'm prett concerned about it. The far left is already completely against gun ownership but I fear this might sway some middle of the roaders solely based off the fact that the liberal media will portray this as "machine gun wielding lunatics" threatening the safety of the president. While any reasonable person will understand that no laws were being broken, not everyone will see it this way. I hope I am wrong though.

I heard this coming in this morning on the radio. I'm as pro-gun as anyone, but not sure a guy toting an A-R is the best thing to have at an Obama rally. Legal or not, he is the commander in chief, and our SS guys have a hard enough time scoping out threats without folks legally packing to an event.

That's my thoughts in a nutshell. There has to be a safe zone around the president no matter where he is, regardless of any state/local laws. There are plenty of nuts out there that have valid CC's

Agreed, probably not the wisest thing to do, but I can understand the protestors point about freedoms.

Secret service to date has done a great job with keeping Obama safe, sure if they thought this was any type of threat they would have dealt with it. Everything going down peacefully just goes to show that guns don't=violence as liberals and the msm media like to so often portray.

Any muscle not exercised will atrophy and eventually die.

The Second Amendment is the MUSCLE of the Bill of Rights and of the Constitution.

If your Second Amendment rights are not exercised, you WILL lose them.

What this man did was 100% legal, and the Constitution guarantees that it will remain so.

NO PROBLEM!!

He just PROVED that a man is not a criminal bent on murder and pillage, just because he is in possession of a firearm.

I say that Obama and the libtards should see this EVERY day, to reinforce that fact. Maybe they'll eventually lose their fear of inanimate objects.

Very well said. I do however think your last sentence should say "Maybe they'll eventually lose their fear of freedom and free people."
