What do you use to sight in your heavy hitters?

ive never used a lead sled but i heard they are one of the best inventions since sliced bread for sighting in any rifle with recoil. Sand bags wont cut down on your recoil. If you want to shoot it confidentally and really see what it will do on paper i would go with the lead sled.

Ditto, I wish I had one of those things. My .300 WSM isn't too bed for the first 10 or 12 shots but after that I start to cringe as I pull the trigger as the shoulder gets more tender.

just a quick question

I have always shot everything from the shoulder. The standing position is the most forgiving when it comes to handling recoil. Just never had the hankering to shoot a rifle out of a device as I think the POI can shift when doing so.

:hammer1:For being in the OTPG, the most envied group of magnum shooters in the whole internets, I would'nt think recoil would be a concern.:flex:  :sleep1::D

LMBO. That is funny Charlie.:D:D:D

Don't have anything that recoils heavier than a 12 gauge with turkey loads here. Never tried a lead sled. We use an mtm predator shooting rest for sighting in our guns, but it does not seem to make for any difference in felt recoil.

Let's see if I can recover myself...

(Dang! just spilled some hot cocoa trying to type this):D

I shot a box of 20 through it in spring 08 in a t-shirt and had a nice bruise. Growing up in IL has meant a lot of 12 guage slugs so bruising I'm used to. I had/have the RUM sighted in at 50 and 100 yards, but not any further.

My main concern is money. At 60+ dollars for a box of 20 I can't afford to wonder if I flinched a little or if I need to put another click on my scope. I'm planning another bear hunt in spring 2010 and need to be able to make a shot over a bait at 50 yards as well as on the next mountain 400 yards away.

I'm going to spend the cash and go to a 600 yard range and get it dialed in for long ranges which is why I'm considering buying a sled.

At most I wear a shirt or jacket with extra cushion.

I use standard,everyday sandbags...nothing major.

Certainly, Ive ended up with a stiff balck n blue shoulder many a times.. but it's all part of the fun... and besides, I love the look on folks faces when you slap off 20 300 mag rounds without flinching.
