David_218
I have a Thompson/Center .22 Rimfire Classic Semi-auto rifle. The rifle performs great except it is shooting about 3" too high with it's factory open "firesights". Today I took it out to shoot and had the rear sight set at the lowest level but it still shot 2 1/2" to 3" high, but the windage is okay and it groups alright. I checked the bedding and everything is okay in that department. If I mount a scope on it I receive Great accuracy, but with it's factory sights it shoot too high. I am just puzzled as to why it would suddenly shoot high with the same brand of ammo I used last year inwhich it shot fine??? I know I can place a scope on this rifle and it is fine but I kind of want to use this rifle's open sights for plinking and informal target shooting. Any thoughts on what the problem might be? <THANKS>

too_pointer
Re: Help! T/C Classic Rimfire Problem I would like to help, but can't. I know next to nothing about open sights, been many, many years since I have used them, and then never had to tinker much with them. Sorry too_pointer

David_218
Re: Help! T/C Classic Rimfire Problem [ QUOTE ] I would like to help, but can't. I know next to nothing about open sights, been many, many years since I have used them, and then never had to tinker much with them. Sorry too_pointer [/ QUOTE ] Thanks anyway I just can't see any rhyme or reason why a rifle all of a suddened starts shooting high with open sights and shoot normally with a scope The rifle's open sights are factory but it shoots like the front sight is too low. It shot fine last year with the same open sights!!

ZooBear
Re: Help! T/C Classic Rimfire Problem Check the crown for damage, try a different box of ammo. Call Brownells and order new sights.
AJ
Re: Help! T/C Classic Rimfire Problem Well, lets try to narrow it down. The accuracy is the same as before its just shooting extra high, correct? So this will eliminate the crown and pretty much, the ammo. If it were one of these, the groups would not be good. Has the POI shifted as far as the scope is involved? If the scope was zeroed prior to this shift, is it still shooting on when using the scope? If it is still shooting fine with the scope, either the front sight was reduced, filed, replaced with something shorter, etc, or the rear sight is higher than normal. Since I have not played with a T/C , I don't know what the rear sight is like, Is the blade inside the sight or is it a one piece unit? Another thing that can change things is shooting style. Are you shooting the apple centered, or are you shooting the apple off the stick? Basically does your sight picture look like -o- or is it more like _o_. The latter one will shoot higher than normal. Other than that, it's hard to trouble shoot something without seeing it.
David_218
Re: Help! T/C Classic Rimfire Problem AJ, I am using the very same ammo as I had used last summer. I also suspected crown damage but check it and found no damage. I have NO problem with the rifle when I have the scope mounted, infact I receive excellent accuracy. [ QUOTE ] If it is still shooting fine with the scope, either the front sight was reduced, filed, replaced with something shorter, etc, or the rear sight is higher than normal. [/ QUOTE ] Nothing has been done to either the front or rear sight. The front sight is one piece and the rear is a Williams brand "Firesight". [/ QUOTE ] I am shooting with sight picture looking like: ( -o-) inwhich it was dead on last year. I even tried lowering the rear sight all the way down and still was shooting high! I am really puzzled as to why it is doing this. <THANKS, AJ>
