fisherguy
I always get annoyed when people waste food. And teh starving kids in Africa thing never worked on anyone i know. I think you probably told her the best way, if she needs clarification tell her how many toys that $ could have bought. lol
Shaun_300
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. Adk you are right! a lot of people thing "oh its just a spoonful of corn, potatoes or whatever, i am full, i'll just pitch it" but really when you think about it, which obviously you did, a lot of food gets wasted. my parents always made sure that we only took what we could eat, we can always go back for more. and if there was a bit left over that we couldnt finish, dad usually finished it up for us i totally agree with you!! Leo
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. Wasting food is bad. Eating more when you're full is fattening. I am not trying to be funny. Eating when you are full starts you down a path that is difficult to control. It is always easier to eat more and more. I know four people who have had gastric bypasses and they all can't believe how little food they need now. Don't let her put that much on her plate. That is the best way to start. Also striving to make just enough to feed everyone is harder than you think but pays off in the long run.
archerjg
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. I think that you explained it to her well. Dad's rule always was and is if you put it on your plate you eat it. Archerjg
buckee
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. I never forced my kids to eat everything on their plate, but I encouraged them to take smaller portions instead. When I was young, my Dad used to force the food down my throat untill I puked on the table...then he would spank me or beat me for ruining his supper. One spoonful of food ehh Is it really that important !!!! As far as you not giving a hoot about the starving children around the world ...well, I'm just glad everyone doesn't feel that way. AJ
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. I agree with Leo. I would rather have them stop eating when they are full and waste a bit than to get in the habbit of having to eat everything in front of them. Look how fat so many people are these days. johnf
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. Give her less food. If she wants more give it to her. If she dosn't, don't. Really pretty simple.

I would rather her not eat that tablespoon, then get over-weight at a very early age!
wtnhunt
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. Have figured out about the right size food portions to give them where they dont usually end up with any waste. If anything I would rather give them a little less and let them ask for seconds. I encourage them to always clean their plates, but if they are full never push it. Problem is now with my 3 year old, she thinks she is full any time she does not want to eat. Tominator
Re: Wasting of food by children at dinner time. My kids do that too. I usually scoop it up and finish it for them, or put it in tupperware and serve it again tomorrow. I do that until it's all gone. Sometimes it works, sometimes I get really tired of spaghetti 5 times in one week.
