HUNTIN FOOL
I'm writing today for Va hunters who like me would like to have some of our gaming laws changed in Va.First priority is bringing sunday hunting to Va I really believe if we can ban together and everyone do their part we can bring hunting on sundays to Va.It not only can cotribute to population control but it also gives people the chance to get outdoors that maybe couldn't before.I live in northern Va just about 60 miles west of DC , I hunt primarily in the counties of Prince William,Faquier,Loundoun and if you hunt any of these counties you may know the deer population is overwhelming we now have more deer in our back yards than in the woods.Alot of that is due to construction and loss of habitat but I also believe that is due to population control. Now resources tells us that without population control it could wipe out a species due to famine, illness and many other conditions.Thats why I am proposing bringing what I would call buck days to certain counties in Va who also have the problem of population control like my area.In this program hunters would only be able to harvest a buck on certain days of the hunting season and the buck taken should also have specifications on antler size, maturity, etc thus allowing our small bucks to grow to full maturity before being taken.I have many other thoughts on topics that I have just spoke about but I would like to hear your thoughts on Va gaming laws. Also I would like to invite you to join my group on facebook just type in the apps search box (Let's bring sunday hunting to VA).Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. layin on the smackdown
I think it is extraordinarily ridiculous that someone actually thought of a law that prohibits hunting on any certain day of the week...And its even worse that enough people voted on it to pass...You should be able to do whatever you want to do with your time as long as it isn't illegal... I hate stupid people. Good luck with your endeavors. dan
sskybnd
im with you on hunting on sundays in va huntin fool, but i can tell you that, having lived in the state for 10 years its going to take getting the state repersentives involved, being va is called the bible belt, and they think every one should be in church on sunday, its a battle that has been going on for years, but hope one day va will let the people deside whether do you to church or go hunting, hope one day it will pass for you. 92xj
Yep, welcome to the Bible Belt. But it will come around. Not to long ago there was no Sunday hunting in SC and NC and now that law is gone.
layin on the smackdown
This may sound totally uneducated, and ignorant to some extent, but i always thought the bible belt was down south...Geographically speaking, virginia isn't exactly south...as a matter of fact, the northern part of VA is parallel to south central IL, and the souther part of VA isnt much further south than the southern tip of IL...IL is not considered a southern state. And if the whole arguement or justification for such a law is based on the "bible belt" why does Alabama and Mississippi, and Kentucky, and Louisiana, and Georgia, and Tennessee (i'm assuming) allow hunting on sunday...Hunting is not a sin... I guess i won't ever understand...
scrubhunter
Virginia has always been considered part of the "bible belt". I too disagree with the Sunday ban, if they feel so strongly about it then how come I have to work on that day?!

I myself am proud to say that VA is part of the South. I live in Shenandoah county in Virginia and the local QDM sent out surveys to landowners and hunters in my county to see if there was interest in antler restrictions on private land. They had over the needed two thirds votes and they took it to the VDGIF. Since there was so much interest they made it that we could kill two bucks, but if you killed two, one of them had to have at least four points on one side. Maybe you can contact the vdgif and see if they have proposed hunting on Sundays when they set game laws. If not maybe hunters should let them know that there is a great interest for it and it should be proposed. The game dept has made some good changes in the last few years, so that may be something they are looking into.
treeinwalker
don't come to NC on Sunday...except for church Yep, welcome to the Bible Belt. But it will come around. Not to long ago there was no Sunday hunting in SC and NC and now that law is gone. There is NO hunting on Sundays in NC. NCWRC tried to get a change in the regulation this year that would allow bow-hunt only on Sundays, but the folks wouldn't have it. Now it has to go before the general assembly to get passed, and if so, won't take effect until 2010-2011 season.
