Tax Tax Tax

Here we are in one of the worst recessions since the great depression and I sit here and wonder.........where in the world is our tax money going. Now the reason for my rant is this, my great -grandmother recently passed away and left a large amount of money to her kids (my grandfather and great uncles and aunts). My uncle who is in charge of the estate and getting things in order had to take a loan out to get the money needed to pay the Inheritance tax. The sum of it was so large that the local bank couldn't even fathom the thought of the loan and he was directed elsewhere for it. Now what gets me even more upset and fuming is the fact that this money was handed down to my Great grandmother from her parents, having lived through the depression and hard times my grandmother knew the value of money and never spent it, only thing she spent alot of money on was the TAXES from the interest the money made. Now back when she was given the money she paid an inheritance TAX and like I stated before the TAXES on the interest every year that money made. Now that my uncle is dealing with the estate they are once again TAXING money that has been TAXED from the day the grandmother recieved it (1930's). It has been TAXED non stop and now that she is gone it will have another TAX of almost half of the estate.

We are TAXED everyday for things, gas, food, hobbies, driving, walking, living and even dying. So I ask where is the money going??? How are we trillions in debt, our economy is in the dumps and yet we still have congressman who make over 150,000 a yr?? Am I missing something?? Am I the only one that sits here and thinks to myself, what in the world is going on???

It seems like the average working person will never get ahead in life. My grandparents and uncles and aunts are all retired, they worked their 30+ yrs and are now trying to reap the benefits of it, my great grandmother never EVER splurged with her money and now the Government wants its HALF!!!! For what?????????????????? It has TAXED and TAXED and TAXED.

Sorry for the rant it just gets me so riled up thinking about the government getting half of what has been around my family for over 100yrs just because they can ticks me off.

Ok Im off my rant, Now how bout them Cubs:bummed:

I'm getting ticked about taxes myself.. Recently I've seen taxes coming in for property taxes. It is unfathomable to me that while property values are decreasing, taxes are increasing over 30%! How in the heck can you have a 30% tax increase on property with property values less than last year.

Everywhere I turn lately, tolls are going up (50% in some cases), property taxes are increasing (30%), sales taxes are increasing and services are decreasing. They're laying off the everyday workers for the counties and public sector and the top echelon are getting pay increases. What gives?

sorry, but these are the good old days. taxes will not only go up, they will dominate your life. how's hope & change working out for you????

It's all of our country. If we don't like something.... IT NEEDS TO CHANGE.... otherwise, soon, it won't be the land our forefathers conquered anymore.... it will be a new country.... that we are foreigners to.

You are all right.

The sad thing is it is the minority of people that ever stand up in protest and try to do anything about it. The vast majority just sit by and watch it happen and take it and never complain. What is even worse is now when I call a legislator they don't even listen anymore they just give you a scripted answer (actually some volunteer staff member does) since you can never actually get through to your actual representative. We have gone full circle and now once again live in a world of taxation without representation. The one thing that frosts my cupcake more than anything else is the tremendous WASTE!! If government was smaller, (like it should be,) and was run effeciently our taxes could be 1/3rd of what they are now and there would still be plenty of money left over.

I don't like taxes either...I have to pay a boatload of them. However, I do like good schools, roads and all the good things that are in this country. We are in debt becouse we still spend more on all these things than we take in on taxes.

As far as getting ahead is sounds like your Great Grandmother had it figured out...look to her as an example. Paying some taxes on an enormous sum of inhereted money seems like a problem that I wouldn't mind having? Count yourself as lucky...most of us don't have rich Aunts.
