Blind or Stand - Which one have you taken more from

For years, i've been an advocate of the ol' tree stand, but after taking a closer look at the deer I've taken, it is surprisingly even on the amount I've taken while on the ground compared to a stand. The opportunities while on the ground have been tremendous, but sometimes the deer are too close to pull back on my bow or there is too much brush on the ground.

I've used pop-up blinds, make-shift blinds and also just stood next to a bunch of bushes and trees and have had great luck at seeing deer come in.

I do prefer tree stands, though simply for the ability to see the deer before they are "on top of me."

what about you guys? Which do you prefer and What is the rate of taking a deer on the ground or stand

Ground Opportunities - 20 or so Ground Taken - 8

Stand Opportunities - 20 or so Stand Taken - 12

Have killed I think 4 deer from ground blinds, all the rest(in the 20's) have been killed from elevated stands. Opportunities on deer from both ground blinds and elevated stands, I really could not begin to guess a number, but I am sure opportunities would be well into the 100's for elevated stands. Either or works well in the right place, I do hunt elevated stands considerably more though.

I love hunting in a natural blind, took 9 one year from a grown up fence row sitting on an upside down 5 gallon bucket, but on the piece of property I hunt now it's not safe to be shooting a gun on ground level with people 360 degrees of the land, so it's up into a tree.

Strangely enough, I have taken more than 90% of my deer while still hunting. Hunting out of tree stand has resulted in just a couple of deer and taking a stand on the ground has added maybe a half dozen or so deer. I much prefer to ease through the woods trying to spot a buck before he spots me, or, cut a track and sneak in on them. While still hunting, I will stop and rattle/grunt at times to lure in a buck but seldom stay in one spot for more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time.

Hard to say. Too many years gone by since I started. When I started deer hunting I don't recall there being any commercial stands. We made our own ladders and built platforms in trees. The first commercial treestand I ever owned was a Baker climber.

Back in the old days while hunting with a firearm I'd hunt off the ground as much, if not more than being airborne. Didn't bother building a blind, just sat on the ground or still hunted.

I didn't start bowhunting at ground level though until 1993. The only reason I remember that being the year is because on my 1st bowhunt from the ground (made a natural blind) I killed a 10 point. Wasn't a tree to choose from where I'd seen 4 rack bucks including the 10 point during preseason scouting so I decided to give it a try.

My best guess is since the early 90's I've probably killed about 40% of my deer off the ground. Over the past 5 years though almost all have come from treestands. That's because the majority of the land I hunt at home has been timbered (select cut). That has severly limited ground hunting options if you want to see more than 15 or 20 yards.

Now as for preferences I have none. The area I choose to hunt will dictate what means I need to use to hunt them.

5 on the ground. 30+in a stand. Only taken 4 with a bow in the last 10 years. I'm hoping to get back at it this year. Got married, got kids and life happens.

Most deer were taken in GA. Up in a tree was the way to go. Truthfully I would rather hunt on the ground. Just couldn't find ways to get it done without spooking the deer on a regular basis.
