Slick Trick
Just picked up my Remington Model 700 SPS Varmint in 22/250 today. Was wondering what grain bullet i should be using. It has a 1:12 twist. Was thinking 55grs??

Zero
Pick up a few different boxes or borrow a few from a friend if you know anyone with one and see which shoots the best.
toddpipkin
Usually, a faster twist is needed for heavier bullets, but I have found that high velocity .22-calibers are somewhat immune to this rule of thumb. I have VERY good results with Speer 70 gr. Semi-Spitzers in .22-.250, using a medium-heavy load of H-414.
Strut10
Wing is right. Heavier bullets need a faster twist. But as velocity goes up so does the RPM of the bullet. So a slower twis on a high velocity shooter will stabilize heavier bullets than it would with a slower round. A 14 twist would be practically worthless on, say, a .223 Rem. But it's, pretty much, the standard on a .220 Swift. You should have no trouble up to 60 grainers and probably even goot to go with 70's. All you can do is experiment. Slick Trick
I want 70 grains for deer. Going to use 55 grain for coyotes/target.
