MichiganHunter
Ok I need an answer. I was wondering if 270 gallons/1700lbs would be enough to run 2 bait stations for 55 days. I am hoping it is but just want some information. I will bait every other day and some days every day. Thanks alot MichiganHunter aka. buckee
Does it really matter ? You'll have your bear before then :)
stevebeilgard
it really depends. how many bears will eat how often at the bait stations? and a dozen more like that. so, just go back to buckee's answer. it may only take 1 gallon to fill your tag. i thought shetland ponies were made for bait. at least to me.... OJR
Try some old donuts and other goodies! They don't weigh as much! It seems you plan on baiting for several months! Get one the first day and you won't have to worry about baiting all season!
JJL
i thought shetland ponies were made for bait. at least to me.... Llamas will work as well. Just make sure you keep them in the shade, or else the sun and buzzards will clean them up before the bears can even find them. We've declared "open season" on bear here locally. Two people have been mauled this summer an another one was killed and eaten in her yard by bears. The ranchers have lost many calves and the DOW is willing to stand by and watch. It seems as though the "scientific" management practices have lead to a population explosion. It's time for a little "old-fashioned" thin out the herd. This should be fun.................No baiting required Edited August 30, 2009 by JJL
MichiganHunter
LOL ok so no great answer but some good ones. So all I need is a few Llamas and a shetland pony or two.....I'll get on that...lol...But ya, I'll go with BUCKEE, and I'll kill out early...lol...but killing out means a expensive trip to the taxidermist. MichiganHunter
Started baiting today. A friend of my step dads who has shot a 500+lb bear and several other good ones told us what he does to start a stand and we did that and put out our normal bait and I have HIGH HOPES.....we'll see what happens, I've got 2 locations watched by scouting cameras.
