mossyhorn
So i bought my wife a honda accord this last year. I have noticed that eveytime I change the oil the plug is way too tight. But how can that be considering Ichanged the oil in it. I dont put a whole lot of pressure on it i know not to over tighten but evey single time I try to do it we have to use an impact to get it off. What would be causing this..... And yes I am turning the right way
Tominator
Heat tends to swell them up and they seize a bit.
sluggunner
Oil poan still hot? Is the oil pan totally cooled down when you try to take out the drain plug? Only thing I can think of is that the meta is hot and expanded and is squeezing on the plug?
mossyhorn
no the car has not been started today i went out to work on it and it was tight as can be..the only thing i could think of it the plug getting hot and once it seizes it stays that way but i thought maybe someone could explain it to me or just give my a clue as to how to fix it. i am about to start sending her to fast change becuase i can wait around for my father in law to get home to use his impact
OJR
There isn't anyway it should get so tight you have to use an impact wrench on it. Yes, they will tighten up some, but not that much! I would take it to the dealer and see what they have to say about it.
punkinslinger
Did the oil plug gasket happen to get lost during any of the previous oil changes?? Thayt was the case with my wifes Accord. The plug them seemed to tighten over time without the gasket...I lost it and need to get another one.:hammer1:

m gardner
I have the same problem. I've a steel plug and an aluminum pan with no steel insert. A copper gasket and some neverseize solved my problems. mark
Shaun_300
If it's an aluminum oil pan and a steel plug use a copper washer like Mark said. GM's Korean line of Aveo's, Optra's and Epica's did the same thing. That and they'd also leak the odd drip. Copper washers did the trick! maddhunter
I worked in a service station for 12 years and every honda we change oil on had that problem and they all has to eventually be taken back to the dealer to have a new oilpan put on because the oil plug hole would eventually strip out. They said it was something about the metal that was used for the hole that swelled, best I remember, but don't quote me. And also that was on the steel pansand around 13 years ago too. May have to use a little salt with that advice, didn't realize it had been that long ago. AAAAHHHHH the good Ol' days !!!!!!!!!!!!
