Help W/ 22lr

I squirrel hunt a lot with .22 LR & .22 WMR. For both I say it's all about practice. I shot this morning at the range and wanted to make sure I was ready for squirrels...here's what I do:

I setup targets with 1" bullseye dots at various distances out to 50 yards. I then concentrate on hitting that bullseye and only that, not a miss but dead-on, because that's what you need for a ethical head-shot.

(This is from last year when I was testing various ammo to see what my rifle liked. The 2 on the right are unacceptable for that distance.)

In the woods you have to get a good shot on the ground or into a tree, because those bullets travel a WAYS, you can't shoot into the air.

Practice multiple distances out to 50 and you'll know your effective range based on your results. You want to be consistently in the bullseye.

Many factors come into play, the rifle, ability of the shooter, nerves, etc.

Yep, he nailed that one. Ammo, scope or open sight, gun, shooter, wind, etc. My suggestion, A few different makers sell bulk ammo at Walmart very cheap. Buy it and shoot until youre sick of shooting. Wait a day and shoot some more.

The .22lr is one if not the best training tool any hunter/ shooter can carry. In the mean time practice at 20yds - 30yds and keep the shots close and tight. Once you become a dead accurate shooter at those ranges allow yourself a little more distance.
