Well, I set the alarm clock for 5:30 this morning, intending to get in a quick hunt before work. Instead I laid in bed and listened to it pouring down rain. Oh well, it should be cleared out by this weekend.

I don't blame you one bit. I hate hunting in the rain also.

I had another close call over the weekend. I had 3 nice does coming into the food plot and some coyotes scared them off. I wish the coyotes had come in instead. icon8.gif

Went for a turkey hunt yesterday at my parents in the southern tier. I saw 4 bucks!!!! That season does not start until Thanksgiving week.

I still haven't got a deer but I saw more deer today than I have in quite a while. At first light I had a little five or six point come by in range but he isn't legal. About 7:00AM I saw a big eight point come out about 250 yards down the edge of the woods I was hunting. He came out right in a spot I had thought about sitting. Well about 8:20 an even bigger eight point came out at 135 yards and kind of angled towards me but went back in the woods at 115 yards. He was breathing hard like he had been running or fighting maybe. Today was mostly about scouting and getting an idea of what the deer were doing in this area. I already thought that bucks regularly come through here just before and during the rut checking for does. Now I think I know.

While this was going on my 12 year old niece is sitting with her mom with the rifle. It was youth season this weekend. About 6:30(?) or so she shot at an eight point and missed. My brother was close by so he went to see if she got one. So he went ahead and sat there with both of them and about an hour later an even bigger eight came out. This one she put a real nice shot on (with a .243) and he went down after only a short run. Her buck looked like he had been fighting quite a bit since he had several puncture wounds around his head and neck and a torn ear.

Part of the reason I haven't been seeing many deer is because I couldn't get to my good spots because it has been raining so much. Thankfully the whole next week looks dry according to the local forecast. That will help with getting crops out too.

Oh and we saw five deer just driving to my hunting spot.
