WTG lilmiss...we may need to change your name to lilmissdeadly.

Things are looking up for me. Rut is kicking in and I saw a lot of bucks over the weekend. I rattled in 4 bucks Saturday morning, including 2 different 10 pointers, but I've found out that rattling and bows don't go together very well. :bang:

But next weekend is rifle season and it'll be a different story then. :gunsmilie:

I decided to hunt a feeder one afternoon to see what the doe crop looked like. I had a doe with a fawn within 5 yards of my ground blind.

Then, much to my surprise (and delight!) I had this really nice 3.5 year old eight point show up.

He stuck around for about 30 minutes and finally ended up leaving to go chase some girls.

Now, if I can just find something a little more mature...

I'll second that congrats on the first bow buck!

My weekend was interesting, but unproductive. We've had a cool October and the rut was starting to really shape up until we got hit with a heatwave for the opening of gun season. Had temps up around 80 all weekend. I did see about 10 different bucks, but nothing that measured up. Looks like the hot weather will continue on through the week and next weekend before we get a bit of a cool down. I'm afraid that this will drive most of the rutting activity into the night and make it really difficult to find the bigger bucks. Oh well, time will tell.

I share your dismay Texan. Our gun season opens this Saturday, and we're supposed to see lows in the low 50's and highs in the mid to upper 60's. 20 degrees above normal. I'll be out there from dawn to dusk anyway, but like you believe most activity will take place at night. At least the full moon has passed. That will help some.

Well, I'm still seing plenty of deer, but I don't know where the bigger bucks are hiding this year. Other than the 135 inch 10 point I saw on the opening day of archery, I haven't seen anything else very big. This past Saturday morning was a perfect example. I saw 9 different bucks and none of them would score over 130. Most wouldn't score 120. I really thought the antler quality would be better this year, but for some reason it just isn't there. At least I still have 6 weeks of firearm season left, plus another 2 week late antlerless season after that. Maybe something will show up between now and then.
