MUDRUNNER
I played a little hooky from work yesterday. Hunted till about 11 and had a little forky tempting me. he hung around for about a half hour and gave me three opportunties to whack him at 15, 30, and about 5 yards. I haven't killed a deer with my bow in two years, so he doesn't realize how close he was to going in the freezer. The weather here finally dried up, and the farmers are going at it pretty hard to get the crops out. On the down side the highs are supposed to be in the 70's this weekend. Kind of the same situation here with the weather. Farmers have been at it hard all week harvesting the cotton fields all around us. Hoping that will get the bucks moving more. Going out in the morning, it is opener of our ML. Taking my middle daughter with me. Supposed to be 72 tomorrow. Down to 47 tonight. I'm gonna get out early and stay late. Good luck Tony on either of those bruisers.
SuperMn106
I was over in Kentucky again today to check out another spot. I found a great spot that I am really excited about. I think I have a great chance to shoot a buck. Next weekend is opening weekend of gun season so I will have my ML in hand. I know what you mean by the temps mrs. I decided not to hunt and only to find another spot in the woods because of the warm weather. Good Luck everyone

MUDRUNNER
Man, long weekend for me. Hunted 5 hours Saturday morning,4 hours Sunday morning, 5 hours monday morning, and 4 hours yesterday evening.....total deer seen....0. I'm not sue if it's the weather being 25 degrees above normal, the corn still being in, or what's going on. I'm off again Friday, so we'll keep plugging away. SuperMn106
Keep pluggin away MUD. I am sure it is a combo of the weather and the corn. Hopefully it gets cooler soon.

SuperMn106
Had a great weekend in the stand. Seen 24 deer in 3 sits. A lot of smaller bucks though. The rut is in full swing. Now is the time to be out there.
MUDRUNNER
I finally got a doe yesterday morning! I'll get her entered later this week. I seen pretty good movement Friday and Sunday, and a 150 class 8 pointer that I hope to get a shot at. I'm bowhunting Thursday and gun hunting Friday thru Sunday. The only down side is were supposed to get rain today through Wedsnday and most of the property is bottom land, so hopefully it doesn't get flooded. elnor
It's been crazy with work for me the last couple of weeks, but I'm off all of Thanksgiving week and will be hunting from the OK rifle season opener onwards through the end of the month. I'll wait to post my deer for the contest after I get back. Hopefully there will be a big 'un replacing my muzzleloader buck for the entry...Gnarles Barkley, here I come! HunterLuke
I'm on the schools computer right now ya'll. Hopefully I'll have something bigger to enter in the contest by then though. Goodluck ya'll. Luke
SuperMn106
Well guys I am excited about this weekend. After seeing 24 deer in 3 sits last weekend and 9 different bucks, I have decided to finally let the muzzleloader bark this weekend. I have 3 tags to fill ( 1 buck and 2 does) and I plan on doing it. NOTHING is safe in the woods this weekend.
Wilfinator
A day of firsts. Last Saturday i was able to take a decent 4 point buck on an afternoon hunt with Buckee. Four points is normal for where we hunt on Vancouver Island. Anyway, this is the first time I have been able to call in a buck, and the first critter to meet my new shotgun. All in all a great afternoon.
elnor
Congrats, wilfinator! I'm headed to the woods tomorrow for more than a week of family and hunting. Hope to hang a tag on the big nontypical I've got pics of. Fingers crossed I'll have a good report soon! Hope everyone is getting time with family, friends, and God's creatures. Good hunting! MUDRUNNER
Man, what a huge turn of events for me...for the better! After a really slow year last season and a dismall start to this season, things finally turned around for me. As my previous post says, i got the first deer with my bow in two years last Sunday. Thursday i bowhunted and missed a nice 8 at about 7:30( missed judged the yardage), but redeemed myself an hour later when a big old doe walked into the same spot as the buck and I plugged her. Friday morning was our shotgun opener, and at 8:30 this big boy trotted by the wrong stand! I dropped him with about a 70 yard shot. He's going to make a sweet mount...my biggest buck to date. He's a main fram 8 with a split main beam and a broken drop(still over an inch long so it counts) for 10 points. In a matter of six days my season went from awfull to one of my most memorable. Here he is....

MUDRUNNER
I'm not sue what he'll score yet. I'm having him scored tonight before I take him to the taxidermist. I'm hoping he'll go 140.

SuperMn106
Nice buck Mud!! I messed a good chance on a nice 8 pt this past weekend. I chose to take a bad shot and messed up. He was 40 yards on a hard quartering away shot with a muzzleloader and I believe I grazed his shoulder. Blood ran out about 65 yards into the trail. I watched him limp off for about 110 yards. Hope to get back out there soon and try my luck at it again.
Tony
theres a good looking buck. congrats Mud on a fine buck. looks like he will score 141 by my guess. depends on what the mass measurements are. my season is just plodding along. hunted a new spot the other day and saw 5 does and 2 bucks. both bucks had broken main beams. the 1 8 point would have been 130 class. im geting some stands ready for late season bow right now. here in iowa you want to concentrate on food during late season. i will have about 3 weeks off from hunting due to the orange army will be out. then around dec 21st late season bow opens up. MUDRUNNER
Go get 'em Tony! I had my buddy Reed Beckmann from "The Wild Outdoors" show score my buck for me last week. He came up with 139". He would've been well over 140" if that drop hadn't been busted off. Our second gun season is this weekend, but I only have a doe tag. elnor
Update from me: Filled two more management tags so far this week, freezer's in pretty good shape, but I'm still looking for a big one to use my rifle buck tag on. Here's the #1 buck on my hit list, dubbed "Cheney" as he hangs out in a secret undisclosed location (click on pic for bigger image). We've also been getting pictures of this gnarley 13 point nontypical, aka "Gnarles Barkley", for several months. He appears to be only 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 yrs old so we're planning to pass on him, but he should be something else in a year or two. I'm planning to get back in the woods this Friday for the final weekend of our rifle season.
MUDRUNNER
Pretty uneventful weekend for my group. I only hunted Thursday, and naturally since i only have a doe tag, a nice 130" 8 pointer walked 30 yards from me and all i could do was watch. 20 minutes after he walked off the neighbor busted him. I did see a few other small bucks and two does, but never got a shot at the does. I let one of my buddies hunt my stands the rest of the weekend since he wasn't seeing much in his area, and he bagged a fat doe Friday afternoon. I'm still debating on getting another bow tag and trying for another buck, but it will be pretty hard to top my shotgun buck.
