MichiganHunter
Out Team Total Kill contest This thing is just supose to be fun but we'll put a limit on it....we'll set it at 4 to split the difference between the most and least that seam to be there....A limit of 2 bucks and any other number of does up to 4....so If you shoot 1 buck you can add in 3 does...no buck's than up to 4 does, THE total of bucks and does just has to add up to 4 animals.....(again) since there's no prizes just have fun and add them up...cool...lets see some ven on the ground. ALSO, whould be cool if any one has good recipes for ven they want to share. Heres my ven steak stew what ya need 1 large fry pan/skillet 1 large pot 2lbs of steak 3-5 potatos 1 white onion med 5-7 stalks of celery 4-6 large carrots pealed 16 to 18 oz bag frozen pea's 2 pkts of stew seasoning 2 cans of beef broth 2 small stewing onions 1 pk of bacon (normal store size, any kind) 4-5 cups of pancake mix 1-3 cups of water steps 1. cook bacon in fry pan to medium crispy..(not rock hard) 2. trim fat from steaks and roll in pancake batter. 3. pan fry the battered steaks in the the bacon oil (just brown on either side not fully cooked) 3a. than cut steaks into small bite sized pieces 4. add two cans of beef broth, 2 pkts of stew seasoning, 1-3 cups of water ( i usally end up with almost 2 cans, just use the empty beef broth cans) directly into the deep pot along with remaining oil and black and brown bits from bacon pan. 5. bring to a slow boil/simmer and alow to cook for 40 minuets while 40 min boil 6. cut carrots, celery, potatos into bite sized pieces and set aside 7. cut 1/2 to hole white onion depending on size of onion and personal taste into small pieces (mince) 8. cut stewing onion in half perpinduclar to the ends and cut off the tips of the onions so you have a halfed onion with it's root ends nipped off. Than on the side of the onion that was once the middle cut an x deep into the onion so it almost falls apart. after 40 min boil Next add all cut veggies (NOT FROZEN PEA'S) and potatos to pot, add more water if some has cooked off, maybe 1 to 1.5 can of water. bring back up to a slow boil and let simmer covered for another 40 min to 1hr wile boiling chop bacon in to bacon bit's (bite sized pieces) after 1hr boil if to thick for your taste you may again add 1 to 1.5 cups of water. 5 minuets before serving add pea's and stir in then just before you serve sprinkel the bacon bits over the top of the stew and alow to absorbe moisture from the stew. NO CHEESE on top of this...thats a sin Edited October 18, 2009 by MichiganHunter
NY_Bowhunter14
Hey everyone... No success opening weekend of my season. Saw plenty, just nothing big enough to shoot. Saw my first buck of the year tonight, was a big 6 point, too far away for a shot. Had two small button bucks come right under my stand yesterday morning, they never knew i was there. Heading back out tomorrow, hoping to get a crack at that 6 or maybe something bigger!
aujack
had my opening weekend of rifle season this past weekend. saw about 16 does, a spike and a young 8 pt and saturday afternoon i killed my first coyote
Bowtech_archer07
WTG aujack!!! I didn't make it out this weekend. Worked 9:30-5 on Friday, 9:30 am to 1 am on Saturday/Sunday then 9:30 am to 10 pm on Sunday. No chance to hunt for me except Friday and it was drizzly, overcast and miserable. Not sure what this weekend looks like. If it stays warm and dry, probably more of the same as far as work as long as there is corn dry enough to be harvesting. I think Halloween weekend the rut is really going to start kicking in and things are going to get geared up here in central IL

Bowtech_archer07
If the pre-rut ain't on here in IL, it's within 3 or 4 days. I called in a little spike buck tonight that was really aggressive. He lip curled, raked a tree and never took a bite on his way to me. I'm hopin the big boys will react the same way. We had cloudy, windy, rainy conditions all day. I'm hoping it clears out a little overnight and maybe a big ole buck will be out lookin for a fight in the morning. Bowtech_archer07
Rattled up another small buck last night. Wasn't able to go today, partially due to weather, and partially due to other commitments. I think next weekend the big boys will be on their feet. I'm hopefully gonna get to spend a lot of time on stand next weekend. Good luck to everyone!
Bowtech_archer07
Headed home tomorrow to hunt all weekend. Gonna get pretty aggressive with the calling. Hopefully I can rattle in 1 of 2 giants that I know is on this property. 1 is a 160" deer and the other I'm gonna guess will go over 180". Good luck to all this weekend!! Bowtech_archer07
Worst weekend of the season. Couldn't hunt Friday morning due to rain. Friday night=no deer. Saturday morning=1 little 6 point, not a shooter. Saturday evening=no deer, although dad saw a shooter. This morning=no deer, hunting in stand Dad saw shooter out of. Tonight= no deer. This is the worst weekend I have had this season. Hope things pick up next weekend however if the weather stays dry we are gonna be harvesting close to round the clock next weekend, so I'll be lucky to be able to hunt Friday morning and that will be it. Hope y'all had better luck than me this weekend.
Dawg
Well guys/gals, I think this is where I'm going to get kicked off the team. I went on my first ever mule deer hunt last week. Shot a nice 5x5. Took pictures of the deer, pics of me and the deer...........but forgot to take a pic of the tag. Man, I'm really sorry about that. I could have had points on the board for us. Guess I got caught up in the excitement of the hunt and just flat out forgot.................................sorry. :bang:
Bowtech_archer07
Yep, that's it.. YOU'RE GONE!!!!!!!!! LOL. J/K That's awesome you got your first mulie Dawg. Congrats! I didn't even get to hunt this weekend due to working 33.5 hours Friday-Sunday. Although I did see some rutting activity while I was hauling corn. Hopefully the weather will hold and my boss can get the crops finished up this week while I'm at school and next weekend I'll be able to hunt and hopefully get a chance on a nice buck. Bowtech_archer07
That giant I saw this summer was seen Wed. night 35 yards from a stand that I've hunted all year by a good family friend. He did not take the shot as he is comfortable shooting that far. Dad and him put a stand up yesterday(Thurs) on the other side of the pond about 5 yards from a trail the deer use a lot. I will have my butt plastered there for a few hours in the morning before I head to work. Hopefully I can get a crack at on the big bucks out there. Will keep y'all updated as I get the chance!! aujack
hey theres nothing wrong with triple posting! lol but this morning i killed a 200 lb hog and saw a very nice 8pt but he was just too young. im a huge believer in quality deer management and he was just not old enough to take off of the land i hunt. Dawg
My hunt yesterday didn't produce anything. However, there has been a huge buck spotted on some public land about 10 miles from my house. I'm working the night shift this week so I'll be able to hunt in the mornings. I think I'll get the climber and make my way out to the public land and see if I can't get a crack at him. The guy that saw it is a big time antler hunter so I think he is telling the truth. He said the deer has at least a 20" spread. We will see.
Bowtech_archer07
Sorry for the triple post. My internet wasn't working so I guess I hit the quick reply button 3 times... HAHA:clown: Couldn't hunt Friday because I had to work, Yesterday hunted in the morning, didn't see anything. Hunted this morning, saw a doe and a fawn but nothing else. Went out in the rain tonight and didn't see anything. 1st shotgun season comes in Friday and runs till Sunday so I'm hoping to get a crack at one of those big bucks. I would have loved to have taken one of them with my bow, but I will be just as happy with one of them during shotgun season.
