Well, the first time I got to go hunting this season was yesterday morning. I had an event that makes me love hunting with a bow like it's my first time ever hunting.

Here's my hunt. My buddy Chuck and I got to the property at around 0600. We got our stuff out, setup the ground blind and settled in for a cold morning's hunt with my hunting mentor. I've learned more about every aspect of bowhunting and fishing from Chuck than from anywhere else. He had two cameras and I had my bow. We sat opposite eachother so we could see from two directions on a field edge. The longer I sat, the harder I wished I would have brought my jacket. We had seen a buck on the other side of the field along with two other does a little while later and decided to get out of our blinds at around 0800. I was limited on time so I decided to scout a little bit and maybe set up somewhere different next time. I'd never been to this property before but it held a lot of promise and had a lot of trails around it. This year had a bean field on the property and hopefully next year, it'll have a corn field. We walked a little ways towards a creek across the field with a small patch of Russian Olive trees and other small sapplings in it. Chuck decided to check it out and walk around checking for any sign. I stayed up on the hill and watched for any more deer across the field. Chuck came back up to where I was and we talked about what he found. A minute later, we saw a set of bucks on the same field walking around in what looked like both bucks in a pre-rut mode sniffing the ground and running in all directions in hot pursuit. I was watching the field with Chuck standing beside me when he tells me not to move. I looked towards him and right where he had just come from stood a doe and a fawn. I had my range finder around my neck and slowly raised it to check the distance. I had laid my bow down at my feet so I now had a big challenge to bend down, pick up the bow, nock an arrow, clip on the release, draw and shoot... accurately. Believe it or not, the deer were at 80 yards when I did all but the last few steps. I kept ranging them hoping they could come within the 60 yard range I needed. I looked quickly to my right and then back to my left and that was my big blunder. Before I could focus back on the deer, they blew and were gone. Believe it or not, I was thrilled. Yes I would have loved to take that doe but the fact that those deer had me so worked up that I had an adreniline rush from the experience makes me love this hobby so much more. Later that day, we followed where the deer went into the trees towards the creek and put up a ladder stand on the other side of it. We'll let it sit for a few weeks and then I hope I can cash in on a lonely daddy buck. We'll see. But I know I'll be back there and maybe catch a peek at that same doe.

Hammered a doe this afternoon. Took 2 of my co-workers whom have never whitetail hunted and I got the trail deer after bumping them from a wetland/high grass area on a push. Not a big doe, but I am out of meat so she'll be good in the freezer. Got a buck sticker out of the deal, so that will get saved for bow season and for the general rifle season. Not a fun drag out, but the smiles on their faces was priceless. Now they are hooked, so I have some new hunting buddies to go along more often. I am posting the pics for the 5 points. Hopefully I can upgrade later.

I finally was able to get back out in the woods yesterday for a hunt.I havent been since the 29th of october when I shot my doe.I got to the farm and my cousins dogs were not in the pin:hammer1:,I had to drive a half mile up the road to the upper barn so the dogs wouldnt fallow me into the woods. This wasnt where I wanted to hunt but I had no other choice.I misjudged my time and it took me about 45min to walk to my spot wich by then it was already light,I got there and had a deer on the ridge behind me that had already passed through.I sat on stand untill 12:00 and didnt see anything but plan on going back out thursday morning.

Going out next weekend chasing muleys and 'tails with the Monster! Will see how well that goes, I've got a buck and doe tag to fill. Shot the muzzleloader for the first time in years today and man it feels good to shoot it again. :D Season opens Dec. 12th here and I'll buy a doe tag; state only sells 1,000 muzzleloader any deer tags and they get bought up quick, not to mention the deadline is already come and gone. :( Doe tags, however, are unlimited. Good luck all!

Well, I shot a doe at 50 yards (I think, I didn't have my rangefinder and the shot was high so it might have been 45) Thursday afternoon. Got a complete pass thru, that lovely sounding "thwack" and a hind end death kick from the doe. She ran down into a riverbottom, I gave her about an hour and then my buddy and I went to look for her. We pushed her up right away, saw some decent blood--though not as much as we liked--and then backed out. Came back late in the morning after a spell in the blind and tried to pick up the blood trail with no success and then walked the riverbottom. Never found her, but I had heard coyotes earlier while in the blind coming from her direction and think I know what happened.:( Didn't have another shot till yesterday morning at 40 some yards and the doe spooked right as I shot resulting in a miss. :( Had a lot of deer, including some giant bucks, within rifle and muzzleloader range but the closest shot I had the whole trip was 40 yards or so.

My buddy shot a 140 class 5x4 right at sunset last night, and if we could have afforded to stay another night, we would have found him real quick this morning. Unfortunately, we could only give him an hour and then we went after him. What an unbelievable blood trail to say the least! However, we kept pushing him from his bed and kept pursuing him for three hours and about 2 miles of winding riverbottom. Unfortunately, we had to give up the chase and get on the road. :( We hunted hard the whole time we were there and couldn't find either one of our deer!:( We were both bummed and disgusted, that was Cory's biggest deer to date and the doe was my first archery whitetail. :(

Well, I still have my doe tag and an any deer tag yet for archery so we'll see what happens in the next few weeks. I might hold of on a muzzleloader doe tag yet.

Just had the biggest buck I've ever seen on the hoof come within 20 yards of me this morning! The massive 135-140 class 5x5 just appeared out of nowhere in the riverbottom my buddy and I were hunting. The buck was behind me and I couldn't get the seat up to draw properly in time before he spooked. Even if I did fold it up in time there was a branch blocking his vitals and he was quartering towards me. At least I know I could have gotten him if I'd been hunting with a rifle or muzzleloader! There's always a brightside I guess. :D Maybe next time. ;)
