layin on the smackdown
So whats it look like guys? Whos done for the year? I still got a few more sits before we are done for the season - it closes on the 17th...I smoked another giant doe - 140 pounder! She was a big lady...Had 5 different bucks come out under me on the 30th, but none were mature bucks - one spike, one fork horn, a 5 ptr, a seven ptr and a nice wide 2.5 year old 8 that would go 110 inches...we'll see what happens. Good luck to anyone still at it! dan
Adjam5
Hey Dan...I am done with Whitetail hunting here in NY. BUT... I hopefully will be in the Texas Hill country in a week or two chasing free ranging Axis deer. Wait a sec...is this contest whitetail only? I might have a chance at a good Axis buck when I am in Texas. The knee is not where the Dr and I would like it to be, so a few more weeks of healing might be in order. I was hoping to get back to work right after Christmas. I see the Doctor Monday. While I am hoping he tells me I can go to work, I am quietly hoping I get another week or two off so I can get to Texas for a few days . It has been brutal cold here like the rest of the country, so that has been curtailing my coyote/crow hunting. We didn't do too bad this year. The team did rather well I think. Congrats to all of our team for a great effort. OH yeah...hope you are felling better too Dan.
Canuck2
Well gang, I think we did darn well. All 6 team members who showed up here regularly got deer, and that's pretty impressive. Even more impressive is the one team, #10, whose members all got deer for a 100% success rate. I did a quick count and - based on the deer entered so far - there's about a 53% connect rate for all the hunters entered. That, in itself, is very good. Congrats to all you guys. It has been a slice and I hope I hook up with some of you again (the ones who got the biggest bucks ).
layin on the smackdown
Yes team, i'd say we held our own...considering we didn't have much action from a few members - but oh well, some people just can't get out as much as others. I took the Fiance out on tuesday afternoon in hopes of getting her a whack at something since one of my set ups has been on fire...well we got out a little late, and ended up bumping a few deer feeding....had 4 more work in from behind us, but thats not where i had anticipated them coming from, and we got busted. They winded us from 100 + yards. I'll be out this weekend with the smoke pole - its the IL antlerless only season. I am taking Dartonman (al) and his son out with me and i am hoping i can get one of them on something. I don't need anymore deer for the year - weve got 6 in the freezer right now. I just can't help it though, i want to help others get a whack at one... Good luck to anyone else still at it....Its been fun guys, and i look forward to it again next year. Anthony, if you make it to texas, good luck and keep us posted bud. now its almost time to start thinking about them gobblers and the turkey contest. My Fiance and i each got 2nd season (April 17-22) tags for our county in IL...should be interesting. Take care! Dan
layin on the smackdown
Well guys, i smoked a nubber with the CVA optima last saturday evening...it was quite the hunt...that made # 6 for me this year, and #7 between the Fiance and I. I ended up donating it to a very nice family along with about 70 more lbs of venison from my freezer. That wraps her up for the season. Its been fun guys... here is the link to the whole story http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95733 dan
