Congrats on the doe Fly!

The weatherman proved to be wrong again for opening day. As the sun rose into the sky there was not a cloud in sight (they were calling for morning showers). Although the day was beatiful I got skunked. I didn't see a single deer all day and spent the better part of it in the stand. I got a bunch more pics of deer near my stand in daylight. Just hoping that I can time it right and have them come by when I'm there.

Fly, congrats on the meat! I jumped a doe on the way in to the stand saturday evening, in the morning I didn't see anything. I got set up in the afternoon and about 30 mins before dark I saw 2 does and 2 yearlings. Better than nothing, which is what I had been seeing. So then on Sunday I went out to put my camera back up and found a scrape right beneath a stand I was planning to hunt (but didn't) the night before. Next to the scrape, a rub, on a 10 inch tree!! I couldn't help but think it was the big buck I'm after and that he was prancing around there the prior night when I was in another tree. Anyway on with the story, so I get on the quad and take a ride past the tree I actually was in the night before when I saw the 4 deer. I catch something out of the corner of my eye as I pass the tree. My hunters' eye didn't fail me, it was antler in the brush. Then, I saw the whole rack. It was that 10 point, bedded, only his rack showing. I put the quad in reverse and he stayed there, got out my good camera which I had slung over my back, and snapped a few pics. He was bedded literally 8 feet from the cherry tree I had put my climber up in the previous night. I couldn't believe it. He then took a few quick bounds and naturally, didn't give me a good photo opp in the time he got into deeper woods. So I just have the pics of his antlers above the brush but I will try to upload these tonight. The antlers turned really white and he looked BIG as he ran away. Sadly I may or may not have the chance to hunt him again this coming Saturday due to work that we have to get done at the camp (putting on a new deck).. Anyway check back guys and girls for the pics!

not haveing a good start, seems like it has rained every day this month, i have got to hunt a total of 4 days so far this season, i have seen 10 deer, sat i tried to rush a shot, had 2 does come in facing me, no way to stand or draw they looked behind them and gave me a chance to get to my feet and get the bow off the hanger, i seen another deers leggs coming out of the thicked, thats what they looked at, all three were like cattle at a trough looking right at me, the far right one turned broadside and i drew as slowly as i could with them still looking at me shot at the broadsided one and shot under her, ranged her for 30 yards but when i used the range finder she was 38, the games not over by a long shot, our muzzleloader season starts sat.

well folks my muzzel loader is shot the guy on the lease took it up to make sure it was still on he said he couldnt hit the side of the barn with it after trying 20 rounds, still couldnt get it to hit in the same spot, but not to fear im a good shot with a bow... so i just went to our little 40 acre lease that way there would be no booming going on, and this morning had three deer come in, couldnt get to my feet till they turned there heads, they were only 9 yards away, as i was standing my jacket made some noise and they ran one ran north and the other east, but this little guy ran only a few feet and turned to see where the others had ran, mistake on his part, hes not the biggest deer, hes not the biggest but he'l eat good. 11 yard shot. he probabley cant get entered becouse i droped the camra and couldnt get but 2 pics and i didnt have any one to take one of me, no camera.

Congratulations sky!

The Mrs's made button buck roast tonight and man was it awesome! Cooked it in a crockpot for about 7 hours. Carrots, potatoes, celery and fall apart venison! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine!

I know how it is not having someone around to snap a photo. I carry a small digital camera with me that has a self-timer. I put that self-timer to good use. Might want to think about picking one up. No worries about entering the score from me, I'm just happy you connected!

Congrats fly and sskybnd!

Alabama bow season opened last Thursday, but I wasn't able to go until Saturday. At 8:30 I had three small bucks sneak up behind me in the wind, but they passed just out of range. About 30 minutes later, one of them came back and gave me a 27 yard shot. The slick trick did it's job! This is the first deer I've killed with the PSE Stinger I bought last year. As soon as I get a picture of the tag, I'll have him entered.

Congratulations DSGB!

I've got a game cart with wheels, but when you have a lot of small creeks and trees to go over I'm thinking that sled would be a better option. Think I'll throw mine in the camper for the shotgun season.

Things have been dead lately! Haven't seen a deer the last 4 hunts. Going tomorrow and looks like rain and thunderstorms. My only day till next Tuesday so it looks like I'll be getting wet!

Congrats on the deer guys. Still have not been able to get out due to work and other things going on. Planning on taking a few days off the first week of November to try and seal the deal. Talked with my sister's boyfriend who was out scouting on our property the other night and he said he saw a nice 8 point near one of our stands. I'm hoping that the rut will be in full swing and he's around.

hade a great day to day, all around, started slow, used my climber to day and just moved it about 50 yeards up from my feeder in the thicket, i cut a few shooting lanes on the left side of the stand, thats where the deer have been moving through, so this morning i have my stand faceing towards the lanes and i turn around and see a deer moving to my right.. no shooting lanes all i have is the canapy of the trees and bushes below me, im at 25 ft, i see its a big 8, bow still on the hanger when i clears the last hole i could have shot through, so i tell my self that there going to be coming through the thick stuff so i turn the stand that way, no shooting lanes but a few holes i can get a shot through, just a few min later a see a squrrell jump on a tree and start to bark, i know a deer is coming, but like i said it realy thick stuff im trying to look down through.. i see a big body walking, i grab the bow look for the nearest hole than one after it, the first hole he went by to fast to shot, i draw the bow back and as it starts to get to the other hole i settle the pin on it 7 yards than just as i was about to release, i notice its a spike with about 7 in horns, illegal in ark, it was a close call having to hold the bow back and than haveing to let it down with out shooting it, but found a good spot for the stand, now just to cut a few shooting lanes, than i talked to one of the people that have the lease next to us. he has 500 acres and only three people on it, told him if he needed one more next year i would be more than happy to join him, than he reached into his pocket and took a key off his key ring and told me it fits the gate next to my lease and i could hunted it any time i wanted to and we would talk about getting on next year... realy a nice man.

Been quiet in here this week!

I haven't been out much due to trick-or-treating and work, but I've got several several days coming up starting tomorrow!

Cooler temps, dry weather, and early November is making my blood boil! Got a feeling I'll have some more venison by Monday!

Heading out tonight to head home to my parents to go hunting for three days. They have been seeing several bucks throughout the day, so the rut is on. They have been seeing a nice 8 for the past week or so that I am sure I know where he is bedding. Just have to get in and get a stand in the right place. Weather is looking real good, a front is moving through tonight and tomorrow so there should be some good movement. Best of luck to everyone this weekend.

So Close!

Had an encounter with a nice 8-point tonight! He looked like a 120 incher and 2.5 years old. Since I was hunting on the farm I'm losing to an outfitter next season he would have went down if he had been 10 yards closer! He was crusing about an hour before sun-down. Darn thing was walking into the wind and at one point was only 40 yards from me. I thought for sure he'd smell me, but he didn't. He had his head down and I imagine he was tryign to pick up the scent of a hot doe. Anyway, it was fun seeing the pre-rut activity! Going out again tomorrow!

What a three day stretch. Did some scouting the first day and found a great spot where we were seeing a few buck in the evening. Set a stand out the next day and had our big buck fight another buck 85 yards from me. I tried every trick in the book but couldn't get him to come into bow range. Then tonight with the sun starting to set I got a text from my buddy who was in the next field over telling me that he was watching a buck heading my way. He started to come through the a hedge row and stopped to pick at some acorns. I tried grunting at him and he wanted nothing to do with it, so I tried canning him. The first time I canned he picked his head up and looked my way and went back to eating. The second time got his interest and he started my way. I had him work along the edge of a CRP field and he walked right under me until I got a shot at him. I put it right where it needed to be and he went not more than 100 yards before the Tekan did it's job. Defintaly made all the work pay off on my last night to archery hunt.

Not the huge one I saw last night but good enough for my first archery buck:
