Well fellow team members...I had a limb deflection the eve. of the 20th on a nice 8 pt. Great quartering away shot at 15 yards.. Never saw the limb in the low light.... arrow did hit the buck, he ran off to the west and about 30 seconds later I hear a crash....I figured he's down...I call Andy to bring the wheeler and trailer and a spotlight to follow up cause it was at last light..I stay in my stand another 20 minutes before he shows up..so we follow him find blood right away first jump..then about 60 yards out the arrow, broke off about 4"-and we get out 150-200 yards with some pretty good blood..at that point I say lets leave him lay up and come back..hopeing I at least hit an aertery.. or lung..two hours later it starts snowing so we have to go check up on him..we jump him out of the bed with little blood and then very little after he got up, and this is with snow. we took him another 100 yards and I knew he was ok. He was on camera last eve. and appears just fine. Just did not face the cam on the side he was hit. So I still dont know where I hit. Appears a flesh wound of some sort. The tree is now cut down with a couple others.

I did not lie while telling this story to make myself look better...LOL

It must be a team thing because I did the same thing in October and cut the bush down and tossed it in the river. LOL I hope that you get that 8 Pointer. I have a 10 pointer on the wall and want to get a 140 class or better 8 pointer to go up there with him. My hunting spot produces a bunch of small 8's and then they become big 10's or bigger. I have yet to see a really nice 8 pointer. I have a few really big boys but they travel at night. I have only seen the one but that I have found sheds to the past two years once during light. The other times my trail cam has got him very early in morning or very late at night. Hope you get your buck and hope he lives untill you do.

Well, I have two black eyes now thanks to a MISS and hitting myself! I shot at this fella at 7:40 am this morning and hit a berry bush and my arrow went off into the river and floated away. Big boy ran up the hill looked at me all crazy and took off. I hope that he comes back!

  • 2 weeks later...

Awesome deer man! Nice upgrade for sure! This season has been a downer for me with less deer sightings than I've had in years. I feel lucky now to have taken that 8pt opening day. I am usually passing up quite a few 8's and maybe a 10 or two this time of year, but hadn't seen many bucks or does for that matter this year. Rut down here has been really spotty. I've got 2 more weeks of primitive weapon and am going to try to at least take one more nanny with my bow.

Down to the home stretch boys. I'll try to get some pics up later today, but I think I got the best pics I got all year in a food plot. I guess the crappy rut we had is over and they're finally settling down to eat. I stopped and scrolled through some pics on my viewfinder on the way home yesterday (I didnt have another card) and saw something that looked pretty impressive. I'll swap the card out today and hopefully find some daylight pics of him on there. Last week, I can hunt with my 45-70 but I think I'm just gonna keep bowhunting.
