Stone Cold
Yep! We are allowed two bucks so as any hunter two big ones are the targets. It is to early to take him now. I have the month of November off so he is in trouble at the end.

Stone Cold
Well, I have some bad news for all of my team mates. I was told today that I will be going in for a major knee surgery to fix the issue that is still there on November 3rd so now I am kicking myself in the butt for letting that little 4 point go that could be in my freezer. I informed the wife that dont count me on supper for the month of Oct. the rest of the way because I will be hunting. I want to get a couple before my year is over. I have three weeks so I hope to get some points on the board for me. If not I am so sorry.

I bet you could check in with your bow at yours too! j/k bud. I hope all goes well with the kneee. It's just a silly game, but I hope you have a good outcome, regardless of whether you kill a deer or not. I guess I'll go this afternoon even though there's a 15mph wind and it's hot as heck. Stone Cold
Thanks! The wife already is counting me out for supper most nights so I will be hunting as hard as I can rain or shine. GAME ON! I have untill November 3rd so I have time to get at least one and I will sit over night if I have to. The best thing is that the theropy is going to be Shed Hunting! I have to get my work out in! LOL Edited October 9, 2009 by Stone Cold

Stone Cold
Well, I was just thinking! I still might be able to get in my stand with that brace on! My leg is going to be locked out straight for 6 weeks. I will just have to get in ladderstand one step at a time. I can do that. I might be good that way. Telling me that I can not hunt is like someone saying they are taking my kids. This was a comment my wife said after we started living together and realized how much I hunt, "If I ever gave you the choice of me or hunting I would be packing my bags!". So I had to answer her lightly, "That is why you should not ask that question honey!" I will be back out because sitting here all day thinking about it is killing me! redkneck
I went out for a while today. Thunderstorms got the best of me. Rained like crap and I got soaking wet and didnt see a thing.
redkneck
Sat on the stand for almost four hours this afternoon. Thought it was going to be a good day, but only saw one big doe feed just out of range. Then she circles around me, staying in just enough cover to not let me get a shot, then she crosses my tracks coming in and the snortfest begins, lol. I sure wish I could have connected with that one.
Stone Cold
I went out tonight and jumped a small button buck on the way in and saw nothing in stand. I need my standing corn out mr farmer!
redkneck
Saw 6 yesterday afternoon. Had a chance on a doe, but she had two small spotted fawns with her. Others didn't come into range until one big doe came within 12 steps but was behind a bunch of red oaks, I was about to draw when she must have smelled me or something and decided to walk off in a straight line behind the trees. Oh well, I just hope the grass at the camp will be in good shape by this weekend or next and my odds will greatly improve.
struttinhoyt
I layed the hammer down on a few big hogs this weekend..... One boar that would be close to 200lbs.....
Stone Cold
Boneheads on the board AGAIN! Was walking into my stand when I saw four ears in the grass ahead of me by some round hay bails! I drew back then kept walking! One of them spotted me and took off! The other jumped up and I let the arrow fly. I shot him in a very bad spot thanks to a limb but it got the job done! It makes we feel good that I am a GIMP and still able to help our team!
redkneck
I really didnt know it was legal to shoot button heads anywhere. Guess I need to get out more, lol. Way to knock one down, gimp!

Way to knock one down, gimp! Buttons here in Illinois are clasified as antlerless "Does" for the tag so I am still game to get some bone for the BONEHEADS! redkneck
Stopped by the camp this morning. Grass is looking GOOD! That just expanded my resources ten times. Think things are going to look up. Hope I can get off a little early today and get out there.

redkneck
Got in the stand at my lease yesterday for the first time this year. Did not see a stinking thing. Been raining lots and lots and part of the field was in standing water. But I just knew there'd be some activity out there eating up those young peas. Still early and grass has only been up about a week. I know one thing, if it wasn't for thermacell, I would not have been on the stand for more than 30 seconds yesterday. All this rain has really brought out the skeeters.
Stone Cold
Been raining here too and cold! Been from 35 to 50 for past week. It was 34 one night!
redkneck
Finally planted my mother-in-law's place today and checked a cam I got down there. Best buck I got so far on cam, you can see him in the photo room. Would be the best deer I ever killed with a bow if I can get a shot at him. Moved a stand closer to where I had the camera out. Had one pic of him last Sun morning at 6.30 am, I shoulda had my butt down there, lol. Going to get back down there tom morning and see if he keeps his Sunday route, lol. Went this afternoon, had one doe feeding toward me, got within 30 yards, but was in cover, and I just ran out of light.
redkneck
Well boys, the day is over. I pushed out my big boy almost an hour before daylight (or i think it was him). Saw a total of 2 does, 8 bucks, and 13 turkeys, lol. Biggest bucks were a couple of 8pts that would meet the state's new A/Rs but not up to par, just little baskets. I did see a one horned spike that was pushing 130lbs that needs to be shot though.
Stone Cold
How big spikes redkneck? I have a spike that are at least 8 to 10 inches long. I would hit him if I get a chance.
redkneck
I'm saying about 12-14 inches one side, less than 3 on the other on a 2.5 year old buck. He needs a swackin, but we dont have a cull policy down there. If he manages to put on some more weight before the end of bow season, I might just institute a cull policy! Did you see the pic of the buck I posted in the photo room? I'd really like to take him with a bow, he's a great deer for that little piece of land. That's about ten miles south of me, the lease is about 30 miles north. I can slip down there and be in the stand in 20 min from the time I leave the house, so it's convenient. Plus when your the only one that hunts a place, you get to make your own cull rules Edited October 20, 2009 by redkneck
Stone Cold
That is true and yes I saw pic. I am the only hunter on my private land and it is really nice. The only problem is they are building more houses out there so I have a feeling that in the next few years it will be a country subdivision. NOT GOOD for hunters. The Yotes are bad this year and will tag one of them too if I can.
